What makes it third rate?

Too bad for you and your people. I think their barrels are excellent and have not read otherwise.

So because through your borescope, it doesn't look good, you'll disparage it, but the accuracy is excellent? I buy barrels for accuracy, not for looks. But maybe I'm an oddball on that.

You're reading this wrong IMHO. You buy a Select Match Grade and you're getting their best barrel, period. You buy a Match Grade and you're getting .0002" less exact, which let's be honest, I would guess 99% of us couldn't make a difference on with our shooting skills anyway. And finally, if what I am reading is correct from prior posts and Brownell's website, they offer a Chrome Moly version, which Shilen doesn't even advertise on their website, and which is probably contracted to Brownells. I think you would know very clearly and obviously up front EXACTLY which one you were buying. No guess work there.
