Flambeau Lone Howler Coyote Decoy?

Anyone that has one, is it worth the extra effort to carry into stands during breeding season? Has anybody had a negative response in using a full body decoy?

I really appreciate the amount of knowledge from everybody here. Thanks.

We have had great success with the Lone Howler decoy during the breeding season. The decoy is very lifelike and I have felt like I could do jumping jacks while on the stand and the coyote could have cared less. Only negatives is the fact that is looks so good that you need to ensure that a "Road Hunter" would not be shooting in your direction (haven't had it happen yet, but is does sit in the back of my mind because the decoy looks so 'Real' - especially from 150 yards).

Here is a YouTube clip where these two coyotes got 15 yards from the decoy.....I am not going to tell you this will happen every time you set the decoy out, but these coyotes sure put on a display.

Some coyotes will be in the mood, some will not but the decoy does its job by directing attention away from you and almost always giving you the chance for a good, clean shot.

Happy Hunting!

Rich,

That was some of the BEST coyote footage I've seen. I was just waiting to see yall get a true double with 2 coyotes...one shot. I saw 8 or 9 opportunities for it.

Very, very cool!

Tony,

Aahhhh, what could have been!!!

Getting the ol' two for one actually crossed my mind while on stand but I just got so caught up in what I was seeing that my instincts started watching instead of killing. They sure put on a show that I am darn happy to have on tape because it is the one time that no one would have ever believed me.

Speaking of watching videos, I got a good kick out of Brandon's Running Shot....we have the same thoughts on how we set up our stands and I could tell that the coyote took a hard right on you guys to get downwind. I got a good laugh out of you trying to stop him....been there done that many of times.
Funny how 5 yards can make a difference in a trotting coyote and a RUNNING one!

Great stuff on your films!

I can't see how the decoy helped one little bit in that video. The sound pulled them to the edge of the cover and into range.

In my opinion during fur season, half of the coyotes are scared of decoys and the half that are not could easily be killed without one. I certainly cannot see myself lugging one of those things across the hills. Maybe it is a help to get some film, but definately not beneifcial for killing.

I have decoys and have used them but one has to realize that at times cause the coyote to hang up, take another look and often decide to turn and leave or head downwind.Especially mindful of the fact most of the coyotes are juveniles and an agressive social call with a coyote decoy may serve to hang them up.NOt interested in a butt kicking. There are exceptions of course but have seen decoys hang coyotes up at 150 yds or so many times that believe otherwise would have come on in and also had times a smart coyote hung up looking for a little more information and then wished I had a decoy. However most of the time a decoy is present it seems they will stop for a while. Just something to keep in mind.
