Flash Hole Size and Location???

I recently purchased some supposedly "once fired" Lake City brass. While priming it,some of the primers you could probably push in by hand...reamed too much???

Second,I noticed a lot of the flash holes weren't centered, they were closer to the case head. Does this matter and is it common on this brand of brass?

Third...does the hole size matter? It seems some are bigger than others. Not just Lake City either,I have other brands with large holes too. Does this make any difference on performance?

Thanks....

1. Yes, you might try a different primer, there are slight differences in OD by brand. Do a Custom Search on primers,(up there^^^) should be a post with a size chart.

2. Slightly off center, probably you will not see a difference in performance. I would mark the head with a permanent marker and use them for plinking loads. These are good for bending your decapping pin.

3. That's why most people sort LC brass by date. How small a group do you want to shoot. Hunting loads not so much.

Sorting by date does nothing. Lake City does not change machines on December 31st, and they have many machines running (a million plus cases a day), so the date means nothing. CLean them up, inspect them, and load them. They are some of the finest brass around (not counting Lapua, Norma, etc)

I'm old school, and used to buy several boxes of factory ammo that was all the same lot number, and kept that lot of cases separate. Sorting by date makes ME feel better!

Probably is a waste of time.

Off center flash holes make no difference (other than endangering decapping pin as ninehorses stated). If in doubt, seat a primer in a fired case, chamber it in your rifle and point at a mirror, pull the trigger. You'll find the bore is completely engulfed in flame.

Lake city is good brass. Did the seller do the "prep work" before selling
It to you!? I have about 2000 once fired cases and have been slowly prepping them as I have time. I have 100 or so loaded and about 200-350 prepped and ready to go. I use a counter sink on a drill to remove the crimp and have no issues with WIN SR primers. I also de burr the flash holes. And I have noticed the off center flash holes but they work great and I've gotten awesome results
