Flash Light Mount

Is there a flash light mount that attaches to the barrel or front sling stud? I use a single point sling so i have no use for the front sling stud. I have a RRA coyote that pulls double duty as a hunting rig and home defense. The only flash light mounts I can find goes on rails. I have a hogue hand guard and really dont want to put a railed forearm on it. Here is a pic of the rifle.

Don't know if this helps, but I've attached a Streamlight TLR-1 to the rail on my gas block. I have enough clearance that I cannot see it even on 9 power through the scope. This thing is bright enough to get 100-150 yards pretty easily, and it weighs next to nothing and is the most compact setup I've seen. I also ordered a Bushwhacker size 1 red color flashlight cover and it should be here any day now.......

The whole light cost me about $110.

I didn't need rings.......the Streamlight TLR-1 is made to mount on a rail, comes with adapters to mount on a Glock, and several others including Picattinny. Makes it a LOT more compact and less moving parts than a ring mounted light. To be honest, I'm not so sure you could get something mounted with rings this low to the barrel, I think most rings might put it high enough up to get in the way of the FOV at 9 power.

I would really consider one of these TLR-1's if your night shooting is typically 150 yards and in. I really dont' know why more guys aren't using these.......I'm telling you it's an honest to goodness 150 yard light for about $100 out the door, and there is nothing I've seen that is more compact and easier to switch on/off with a natural hand position than this. The switch is in perfect position to be activated by your thumb in the natural position, and it can be constant on switched, or can be on only when pressure is on the switch itself.

It's only 135 lumen rated, but it's a really clean 135 lumen and produces about the same usable light as a buddies less expensive 235 lumen light. Once I have the flip open Bushwacker red lens later this week, it should be the perfect setup. I'll use the red to spot eyes, and until I know they are in range, then I'll flip it open with my thumb for the shot and use white light for the actual shooting.

Here is a quick pic with a quarter next to it for scale......

Ah, I see now. I think I might get a low enough height by going with a low ring, since my scope mount is at least 1/2" higher than what you're using. My light is longer, though, so I need to clear the float tube.
My light has a push-button on the back, it will work okay.

That TLR-1 looks nice, how much do you think the red filter will reduce the light output?

I have a 3 cell C battery maglight with a red LED that is very bright, I thought of getting some 34mm rings to attach it to the top of my scope but it will be heavy. Your idea looks much nicer and lighter.

Thanks,
Ron

I'll tell you guys more when I get the red, right now I don't really know. I'm hoping I can still get 75-100 yards out of it with the red lens, which would be plenty.

Hey Evil, you might be able to put a 45 degree mount or a 1 o'clock mount on the front to get it out of the way of the scope.

I might have to. I'm going to try the the low ring first. I have a lot of room under the scope.

It looks like it. Here's one of the reviews from the site you linked to:

Quote:Works on a Olimpic Arms AR bull barrel. Ez to take on and off and cheaper than some of the other options. Now you can use a bi pod.

Quote:If you mount a light on barrel, wouldn't it mess up the critical free floating feature of your AR?

I figured it wouldn't, since the light is so small it isn't much different than putting the BUIS on. There's a possibility it will, though.
If it does, I'll put a short piece of rail on the float tube and mount to that.

Duct tape mounts any light wherever you want it. j/k, I got a light from a company called LumaForce and for a cheap light, they will melt your retinas if pointed in your face. Little sarcasm there. Seriously though, they have some super bright lights and they have several mounting options and they also have filtered lenses among some other cool stuff. Even though it feels a little cheaper than a surefire, I could buy four lumaforce lights for the same price as a surefire. I don't know if they are still doin it, but since I blew a hundred bucks buying stuff from them, they sent me a really sweet knife to go along with the rest of the stuff I ordered. Customer service was excellent as well. If you just dont like the light for whatever reason, they have no issues taking it back. Just one guys opinion...
