Flat-base vs boat-tail

Lots of interesting posts. I've been shooting for over 30 years. Reloading most of that time. BT bullets have two advantages in my experience one 400 yards and over and two the higher BC can have an impact if your shooting in windy conditions also. I think that is the reason for BT's being used by some BR shooters. But I have some guns that just plain shoot the FB bullets better and in some cases the converse is true. So that is one of the first things you need to sort out. I shoot the bullet that gives the highest accuracy. I'd say if your shooting under 400 FB bullets will do anything you want them to. I use them in Benchrest. Say you plan on shooting or having the occasion to shoot over 5oo you'd better start looking at the BT bullets. That's my 2 cents worth.

I do on my hunting bullets. As you already know I favor the Nosler bts in just about everything I shoot for hunting or shooting varmints. As mentioned before, it also makes seating easier, but thats not why I use them. They have been more accurate that most fb bullets I have shot. The Serria 52 grain bthp's are great too.

Benchrest is a whole different animal. You find what works best for 100, 200, and sometimes 300 yards and use it specifically. Accuracy and groups are 100% important while preformance on what benchrest bullets do to varmints are not.

I've always had better luck with tight groups from flat-based versus boat-tail bullets... may have just been my barrels, don't know.
