Fliching Help

This may not work on a large caliber gun but my brother in law always told me to try and see the bullet hit the target through your scope. Meaning to try and keep your eye in the scope even after the shot. I know this probably isn't a big help if the person is fearful of the recoil but that always helped me to not think about the recoil but more the placement. Maybe this would be a good tactic to try with a smaller caliber and then it will just become commonplace after it has become habit. Just a thought

Greetings

Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) If the basic fudamentals are taught, studied, and applied which include proper Sight picture ,sight alignment, stock weld, breathing, and trigger pull/squeeze, then there leaves no time for this panic stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Ball and dummy round training along with the dime or washer for trigger squeeze and breathing are even better when you apply the next things I mention.

Use of hearing protection helps with muzzle blast noise, which contributes to flinching, the body instinctively reacts to trauma, like blinking your eyes,(involuntary muscular movement) use shooting glasses while training/shooting, shock wave contributes to flinching. The body experiences little to no trauma when shooting a bow and arrow, So I think that is why you don't here this Panic stuff much when it comes to BRM

I hope these things I mentioned help you as well

Alright guys I really appreciate all the input, and tonight we are taking the 22 magnum, 223, 25-06, 308, and 30-06 out to the range to work on this problem of his. I bought some 125 grain Core-Lokt for him (What my buddy shoots out of his) for the lighter recoil. He's out of school now, and we have from 5 to 9 to work on his flinching.

Thanks again

Thought I would do a follow up on this. I took him to the range, put him on the 22 mag, and he ran about 500 rounds through it. After an hour rest, I put him behind the 30-06 which I had put a dummy cartridge in as the 2nd shot. He didnt flinch at all at the snap-cap. After a box, we had it sighted, and I proceeded to place another dummy in without his knowledge. Still no flinching. I really appreciate all the help you all gave. Im taking him out to try and get a deer tommorow until Saturday, so hopefully he'll wack one.
