For scanning the 7.5hz of the scout ii series isn't a big hindrance. When it comes to a scope your going to want to have 30hz or 60hz.

One thing that spooks me about this unit is it's being marketed towards hikers, campers and people looking for lost pets. To me that sets the tone for disappointment. 100 yards on a human probably cuts down to much less on a predator.

I don't think it will have much of a hunting application except for finding downed game.

It's a good step in the right direction as far as pricing goes.

I am hoping it serves me well as i hunt mostly small openings here in Maine with a handful of large fields and clear cuts. If it doesn't pan out in the large fields can always go back to lights or set up closer. i have been hunting with lights for about 8 years now and have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on one. Once in the game will likely upgrade at some point. If this can find a couple downed animals and kills me a few coyotes then it's a win...

See now if I could use lights in my state I probably would have never gotten a thermal, at least not at this point.

Having said that, I won't go out without my thermal now.

Yea that's what I seen rpc. I hope so I'm ready to try it out.I hate waiting but I hope it works as I'm expecting. I just need to see heat. I'm not worried about being able to identify it. I'll do it with night scope.

Just got back from a trip, I used a flir marine scout ( yellow). Not sure which version, it's prolly 5 yrs old or better. That in combination with a photon xt and a mid range ir illuminator. Great results, more good shot opportunities for sure. The photon is by far....with out a doubt , thee best bang for your buck as far as night hunting.

With a decent IR illuminator it really does allow a hunter to have something adequate to kill predators at night. There are many, many other units that certainly are better but not at that price point. When paired with a thermal spotter, a hunter has a good chance of seeing animals that would be missed and shooting them with the Photon.

Hoping Predmann will give us the honest run down.

I'll let yall know. I hope it works. All I need to see is a heat signature . But I know waiting a month and a half is what sucks. If yall are interested I think I only paid $530 for it thru nightvision guys.
