For all you nonbelievers Mini 14 Target Video

That's pretty awesome video. You can never make everyone a believer, though. Noah tried, have fun with your Mini.

There's no denying thats a good shooting rifle. I enjoyed the video, but ol Paul sure if full of himself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

IMHO, If that is a bone stock new generation Mini, that's impressive.. I have a couple of ARs that might have a problem matching it with factory ammo.

If the video discussed if it was factory or handloads, I missed it..

oldturtle,
The video never stated but I saw a reloaders shell holder on the table so I doubt it's factory. I love Ruger but I don't believe this is a repeatable test with several mini's.

I've had a couple,they were fun,but NOT tack drivers,by a long shot! I got a Bushmaster Varminter,and never looked back. Ron

Nothing against Ruger but it is pretty hard to justify spending the same for a Mini 14 as you would for an AR-15. In the past Ruger has always been hit or miss for me in the accuracy department but I've bought 3 Bushmaster AR-15 and they are all 1" MOA or better.

I will grudgingly agree with this. My very first new gun was a 3 screw Ruger. My safe would be a lot roomier if it was Rugerless today. But I cant help but think that Ruger (and who could blame them?) is trying to cash in on the tack driving autoloading bandwagon. But they are doing it without a AR platform, and this is a very tough go. I dont think Mr Stoner would have ever dreamed that his battle rifle would ever turn out to be the shooter that it is today. My AR-15 will shoot as good as any of my bolt guns most of the time. If a Mini shot as good as this, I would be having to find some more room in the safe for it as well.

Sorry, Ruger- I love ya, but you dont make the best at everything. But please- for all us Ruger fans out there- keep trying, OK? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I did the mini-14 thing in the late 80s. I loved the gun,it just felt good, handled really good and was rock-solid dependable. But it was about a 3moa shooter with good ammo, on a good day. Mine seems to be a pretty common story, huh? That being said, If the new mini is this accurate,I don't see the problem with paying an "AR15 price" for a rifle that Is built on a solid, proven, dependable platform. And to a lot of shooters (myself included) just handles better and feels better in your hands than an AR.
BTW, I'm by no means trying to put down the AR15,I likem all. MOF just got my first one and I love it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got burnt on a Mini several years ago. Had a hell of time getting rid of it too. Pretty much ruint me on Rugers from then on. I really wouldn't care if it had just won a benchrest competition.
I'm guessing ol Bill Ruger probably turns over in his grave any time the subject of early Mini14s comes up....he would not be proud.

the nice thing about the mini over the AR is, the gun is much more suited to scope mounting, you don't have a problem with getting the scope up and forward enough that just about every AR has a problem with, you don't have to deal with the AR's to friggen short LOP problem, also you have a gun that is more traditional and better feeling in your hands. however if I am not mistaken that mini target is a pretty heavy gun

The video looks like good shooting. I don't care for the thumbhole stock but the Hogue overmolded stock may be just fine. I think it tips the scales at 8 pounds. I held one and it wasn't to bad.
