For my Dad for Father's day

This photograph was taken about 1917 in an underground mineshaft. The horse was totally blind, as were all such horses due to lifetime in total darkness. It is the most impressive image I have ever seen. It depicts the American way of life and the effort it took our forefathers to build this great country.

Often, when I have been discouraged and despondent beyond words, I have looked at this picture and said to myself, “I will pull it one more mile.” With that attitude in mind and with an average amount of intelligence, any person can certainly make a success of their life in this land of free enterprise. - Ross Taylor

The photo says a lot as you stated.
I think of my grandfather working 100 years ago as a bootmaker, 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week, raising 7 kids through the depression.
My father was a Marine in the South Pacific during WW2 and when he came back, he was different as were many, and spent many hours trying to carve out a life.
My step-dad was a tank driver in Europe for Gen.Patton and he had an equally hard time making a living.
I wish they were all still around.

Yeah, and thats when men were men. I wish men of their character were still here. There are some but not many. Most of them can be found here on PM. Thats my 2 cents worth.

I had never seen this picture unitl last night in Sportsmans Warehouse. I almost picked it up for my Pa inlaws fathers day gift. It certainly hits the nail on the head when speaking of what our country has been built on!

I remember an interview years ago, on TV, with a Texas businessman. He was an older gentleman. He was in the oil business. He said he could remember finalizing million dollar business deals with a hand shake. And both parties kept their word. TT

Thats what its all about right there. Most people dont give a darn about a hand shake anymore. Everytime I get that old limp fish it sends shivers up my spine. Now days for more reasons than one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.
