At my expense…let’s play a game. No comments, just put a number at the shots you could’ve taken throughout the video. Yes I’m hoping this will be therapy for me, 😂
***Turn down your volume, not sure why a scope with no audio does that when transferring to YouTube***

Tough one for sure! But there were a few times a good shot could have been made, especially when it was coming toward you on a slight angle. The one I shot the other day did just that. Came up over the hill on a slight angle and I knew it wasn't going to stop so I took the shot.

Don’t know if you can tell, but the call is right across from it in the small pines. He caught my scent where I walked and placed the call and “zoomed”!!
I figured he’d have turned tail and went back the way he came.

As far as sounds I made, I “woofed” once when he was coming and he ignored it or didn’t hear it, he stopped at mouth squeaks twice but not where I wanted him to. I dropped the volume on the caller when he was coming and even stopped it completely hoping he’d stop to evaluate the situation.

It’s not that I’m beating myself up for not taking the shot, it’s just that these opportunities don’t happen a lot. I’m fairly confident there are now a few coyotes out there to be taken as I intentionally didn’t target them trapping on this property the last 6 months, just nest raiders and cats.

I actually did not notice the call placement on my first watch. I was just thinking how patient you were being waiting for the perfect shot. Then when he gets to the opening he bolts. Can’t make that stuff up. These things happen to all of us. I get more mad at myself when i miss an easy shot than when things like this happen.

There were probably three times I would have tried a shot. First was when we was walking straight at you. I'll take that walking shot. Second were the two times he stopped behind grass/brush. That assumes the grass/brush is as light as it appears in the video. Having never hunted with thermal, I'm not familiar with how it represents brush, so maybe those aren't good opportunities. I may have also taken a broadside walking shot a couple times when he was in the clear. That's a judgment call based on how steady/good I feel. It's hard to portray that in video.

Up north here a couple hrs after sunset, grass, brush, fencing wire is basically invisible. No clue how to time a mover in tight cover. The lane would have been my shooting opportunity. Although I have no problem taking a headshot if the 2 second rule is in play, target stationary 2+ seconds, reticle steady 2 seconds. Break trigger.

BOOM.... BOOM.... BOOM... BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM! LOL.

About three times, I felt like I could have killed him with decent, high percentage shots.
