Been out 4 nights in the last few weeks but only for 7 sets total. No action until last night in the 3rd and last set.
I did have one booger yappin behind me from the woods in the first set then these 2 answered a pr. howl I let rip about midway through my second set from the ridge top. They were across the hollow and behind me several hundred yards and could possibly have been the one that was yappin at me from set 1 (had the same deep pitched voice) and the last time I heard them they were in the bottom.
Set 2 was about 1/2 mile SW and up on the ridge from the first set. I finished set 2 then moved partway down the steep, undulating hillside into a pasture that has not seen cattle in over a month, so the vegetation is waist high plus. Vid tells how it played out. She at about 70yds moved just as the shot broke so was hit back and made it about 30 yds. He was a perfect double lung at about 130yds after I barked him to a stop but still went 50ish. First kills with the 55 Nosler BT-pass thru on the lung shot, most of my 58vmax chest hits did not exit. More kills are needed before a decision is made to switch or not.
I did not look far enough down the hill last night for #2 but found him where he was last seen on the video.
They came at about 25min to all vocals with fights followed by a kiyi being the closer.
Both were adults and she was unbred--he was a biggie.

I usually don't get too fired up to go till the middle of August with the 1st cool down of late summer.

Need to start thermal shopping here shortly first.:giggle:
 
Nice going, Mike. I won’t be back after them until October. I’ve had better results with the 55 NBT over the 58 Vmax from my 1:8 twist Tikka in 243 Win. Curious to see where you end up.
 
I don't hunt much in the summer till late July but 'just get the itch' sometimes and thanks for the replies.

10pm when i left the house it was 60, was 53 at 2am when i got home.

Al, Sat. night the 2 sets made were with Marlin who has the Noxpics 1280. We only saw a few deer and they were far but I looked at 3 at about 600y and it is impressive with the optical zoom but man does that decrease FOV-definitely would need to crank it back out after a shot to find another target if multiples are involved IMO.

Bob, time will tell which bullet and another factor in the equation is I am picking up a RAR Ranch today so some will depend on if one is a 'turd' in this gun, which I doubt cause they are both 1-9.

Mike nice going on the double. I shot the 55 bt's for a good while as well as the 58 v's. I'd say the 55 bt's are tougher and would be a better bullet if you do a lot of shooting into the shoulder area. I seldom got a pass through with the 58's with shots just behind the shoulder bones and mostly instant death. I killed several deer with the 55 bt's with neck shots under 150 yds. and again instant death. With the Ranch model you should get a little more penetration with either bullet since you aren't driving them so hard. So how are you liking the suppressor?
 
I used 55 gr BT's in the .223 AR almost exclusively on coyotes & hogs. When specifically targeting hogs, used the Nosler partitions but shot a lot of hogs w/th BT's while coyote hunting. Most of my shots on coyotes were tight behind shoulder, neck shots for culling does and hogs broadside between ear and eye. The only bad results I did have was due to my bad choice of frontal shot between the eyes of a large boar. Saw the splash when bullet struck; knocked the boar down like a sledge hammer as he crested a small rise, running full tilt toward me. He fell back out of sight over the crest, immediately regained his feet and made it into heavy brush before I could get off another shot. Thinking back, the angle was wrong, bullet never entered the skull due to flat trajectory angle. Not sure the partition would have fared any better at that angle.
 
LH-a few fields are cut but not many, not a lot of rain but just enough to keep them out of the hay.
Soup-I would much rather they not move after impact ;), much easier to find that way.
DU-not running the can yet. Lapped and did my break-in ritual then started setting the Ranch up yesterday but prolly won't get past just 'messing' with it as we are headed to "Duck" this weekend. That double just shows that a can is not necessary for multiples (SOMETIMES), I have killed lots of multiple with no can and had lots run away too;).

Mike, the Nocpix 640 has a 8.8x7 degree FOV with it's 3X base mag.

The Noxpix 1280 has a 14.7x11.7 degree FOV with it's 2X base mag.

I might be all wet, but I'm going to assume the FOV is going to be similar between the two at the same magnifications.

I should call them up & get the real skinny on them.
