found some cheap guns need help

I'm from NW Ohio, and if I had a dollar for every woodchuck I've shot from my pickup window or tractor or ATV while private property, I'd be rich. Pretty sure it doesn't apply to varmints.

Ohio gun laws do state that you can't discharge a firearm from within or on a motor vehicle.................guess I'm a poacher as ohihunter2014 previously stated. Pretty sure you'd have a hard time getting an officer to charge you if you were on private property off the road. I check zero of my rifles all the time from my truck window, tailgate, or hood when in Ohio. Guess that's illegal too.........

the poaching comment was a joke, and as far as shooting from a vehicle in ohio, the last I was told-a few years ago shooting a firearm from any vehicle whether private land or not or truck or atv you had to be disabled/not able to walk. shooting from a vehicle is illegal private or public.

2923.16 of the Revised Code, it shall be unlawful for any person to hunt, shoot, shoot at, kill, take or attempt to take any wild bird or wild quadruped from or by means, aid, or use of any aircraft, or any motor-driven conveyance or its attachments. Shooting wild animals, except migratory game birds, is permitted from farm machinery when being used in normal farm operations. It shall be lawful to hunt small game and furbearers, except migratory game birds, mink, muskrat, river otter and beaver from a powercraft if the motor has been completely shut off and the powercraft has come to rest. This rule does not apply to persons who are mobility impaired and who possess a valid electric powered all purpose vehicle permit issued by the division of wildlife for use on a wildlife area, while on a wildlife area.

this is direct from the ohio revised code/ohio laws. so yes shooting from a motor vehicle when on private land is poaching.

Soooooo, technically, using the hood of my truck or my tailgate as a rest while I shoot Mr. Woodchuck is poaching. I have a hard time believing that you'd find a LEO who is going to get you for that one. You'd have to be doing something else. They damage a lot of my beans........I'll keep poaching.

not sure what the law is by you but a lot of states its illegal to discharge a firearm from a vehicle. it is on ohio, its called poaching!

In South Dakota it is totally legal to shoot certain animals from the vehicle, even off the highway. I've done it with a state trooper behind me, in fact.

My favorite rifle of all time is a 770 in .270. I got it for about $200 brand new, turned around a few months later and got over 700 for it at an auction. No idea how it shot, but I liked it a lot after that

I have a handi in .223/45-70 barrels. Both shoot well. I don't use them for anything really anymore. I have varmint guns now that do a really good job so the .223 isn't needed, and the 45-70 is an elk caliber. My elk success rate is low enough I don't want to carry a single shot on the off chance I see one.

I had another in .243 that I couldn't get to work well, group well, eject spent cases etc. I found a lot of info saying that caliber in the handi's is a well known lemon for some reason. I broke even on it reselling. $220 for the handi isn't a bad price, but its not a steal.

For $180 I'd get the 770 and use it as a loaner/training rifle or as trade fodder, wouldn't think twice about it. I collect cheap guns purely for this. Even if I only make $50 on it, it's $50 towards something I do want. I'll do it all day every day if I can.

A few years ago, I owned two NEF's...one a bull-barreled .223 w/synthetic stocks, and a sporter-barreled .243 w/synthetic stocks.
I put an old Simmons Blazer scope (I know, some hate them) in the .223, and it was a decent shooter. I just couldn't reload fast enough, if I had more than one coyote come in at the same time.

The .243, I took to a gunsmith and had open sights mounted on it. I also painted the stocks a flat white.
Again, it was accurate enough for what I used it for....150 yard or closer shots in snowy weather.
I'm KNOW the gun/caliber was very capable of longer shots. However, my eyesight, with open sights was not.

I'd take a chance on the NEF at that price I think the bull barrel should make it fairly accurate, had one in 22 mag that was. The other option would be to buy the 770 sharpen the barrel attach it to a stick and you got yourself a $180 spear, assuming the stick was free.

I prefer the term "entertainment occupational manager". Looks better on my resume.

went back to get a stoeger champion o/u for $300 and the 770 was gone but the nef was still there with a nef 243 with 3-12-40 scope for the same price. that 770 was all tore up, looked at it again for chits and giggles and the scope had a large black thing inside the lense that appeared to be a chip. that nef had a nef or h&r medallion on the stock, looks nice. I may get it for something different already have a savage axis in 223 if my brother would ever stop taking it.
