Fox Pro Wildfire not loud enough... what about Primos?

I don't think my Wildfire is loud enough for large open areas. From reading it seems like an external speaker doesn't give much volume without an amplifier. I don't want to spend $600 on a top end Fox-Pro because I just don't go out enough to justify that.

It seems like the Primos calls are louder, but I see there are mixed reviews on sound quality. Anybody have good luck with the Primos and sound quality?
 
Somebody is wrong about the Wildfire not being loud enough when you hook up a SP60 speaker. Any coyote that can't hear that combination is hearing impaired.

My understanding is it still runs off the 4 AA batteries and has no more amplification. Am I wrong?

I've hooked up a TOA speaker to my FX5 and my Scorpion and the increase in volume is substantial.
 
Your call is plenty loud, although I do encourage you to buy a Primos and share your thoughts on it. Don't forget to buy a box of Kleenex with it.
 
Get you a good open reed mouth call. Blow on it for the first minute or two then turn on your foxpro. The mouth call will get your sound out there to get their attention.

Your better off to buy a more expensive call than to buy the speaker and the Wildfire. Will the speaker drain the batteries any faster? I was in the wind yesterday and I could not here the caller 60 yards away. I hunt with Mike on here and his Primos is 3 times louder than my unit and has a very nice remote not sure on the cost I never asked, got my Wildfire at Gander Mountain and they only had Western River callers besides the FoxPro. I should have waitied and got the unit that looks like a loud speaker.
 
Yes, for the money the Primos Alpha Dogg is a great call. The Foxpro budget calls just are not that good in my opinion. I'm not on any ones pro staff so I feel I am not biased. I own or have owned electronic calls from Primos, wildlife technologies, and Foxpro. Unless you have $400(Foxpro Crossfire) to spend on a call I would buy the alpha Dogg or wait on a good used one to come through the classifieds.
 
There must be millions of starving coyotes out there who can't hear a rabbit distress from a real rabbit because they aren't amplified. Never under estimate the hearing of a coyote first off. Their hearing is many times better than yours, even if you can't hear something clearly it is more likely they can.


That being said, an external speaker on your Wildfire will increase you volume tremendously. I had the same setup myself. I spent $30 on a TOA 610 speaker and bought a male plug, instant drastic increase in volume for under $50.

How far is the remote range on the shockwave in cold weather? As said it was very cold and windy on the hill I was on and I could get 70 yards max out of my Wildfire remote with a hand warmer rubber banded to it. It is not a problem as I can turn it on and walk downwind and just let it play 1 sound. I have tried all the best batteries mentioned. The Primos callers have a very nice remote from what I seen of it and have very good distance.

I may sell and buy the Hellfire money is tight at the moment and it loooks as it would be louder, but has the same remote, hoping for better distance.

I've put a few hard seasons on my Alpha Dogg and I am always impressed with it. The volume is never an issue with it. The remote works great out to long distances. I haven't found a fault with it yet.
 
I bought my speaker off of eBay. It is the same speaker (essentially) that the Hellfire uses. I also had distance issues, I cured that issue by getting a cheap tripod from the photography area at Walmart and elevating the caller.
 
Never used the Alpha Dogg, but just got the Boss Dogg and it will make your ears bleed!!!!
I had been using a Flextone which didn't have a lot of volume, but had some great sounds

Natchez has the Alpha Dogg on sale for $179 the rebate of $30 just expired
