Fox whistle

Was wondering if anyone has ever used a fox whistle with any success. I see all kinds of you tube videos in the uk and Australia where they use them with success just haven't really heard of anyone using them here with any success.

Ive used the Apex fox whistle, works great. Great thing about them is they are industructable pretty much, no reeds, nothing to replace or mess with.

I learned about the fox whistle from Tom Varney of Australia. I had the good fortune to have met Tom through a PM member from Australia, VicFox. VicFox sent me a whistle but I never could get the hang of it.

I never met Tom in person but we exchanged several e-mails over a period of time. He sent me several of his videos which demonstrate his calling techniques with the fox whistle. He was very successful with that whistle. Unfortunately, Tom passed away about two years ago.

Check out some of the video clips on his website, specifically Fox Frenzy vol 2. Just scroll down the page and find the clips on the left of the page.

John Cooper makes the Tenterfield whistles, he lives in Coff's Harbour, Also there are Silva fox whistles by Ron Kiehna, which is the other major player in the Australian fox whistle market, Ron lives in Glen Innes. Apex is way down the list because of cost. The best Tenterfield style whistles are made by Paul Edwards of Goulburn, Australia IMHO.
