is the fx5 really worth $200 more than the fx3 what makes it so much better. i know fx3 gets 50 sounds compared to 200 for fx5 but i can live with that. any other plus's Thanks.

If money weren't an object I would definitely go for the FX5. The LCD remote that tells you what sound you are using and being able to scroll through the list of sounds is a great upgrade. Also being able to tell what volume you are at is a nice feature too. I have the FX3 and would love to upgrade once I get the money. That said I love the way that my FX3 works now though.

The FX3 is a great unit, but I didn't like the remote any better than anybody elses. The remote for the FX5 makes all the difference for me. It's really the cat's meow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

what does fx3 romote show. i thgought they were pretty much the same. money is alwas an object, but i only want to spend it once. if i am going to wish further down the line i gox the fx5 guess i might as well get it the first time. Thanks Don.

The fx3 remote only shows the numbers the fx5 actually has the sounds listed on the blue LCD screen. The fx3 remote also does not tell you the volume but the fx5 does. fx5 remote is much easier and user friendly in my opinion.

Don't beat yourself up later. The Fx3 remote shows #'s. The FX5 on the otherhand shows a LED screen with a group of sounds that you scroll through. Also, you can preset 4 chosen sounds.
Example: You are playing your sound and a pair comes in and DRT you nail the 1st dog. Slide you finger down and hit one of the preset buttons (pup dist), then you have it in a touch of one button that quick.
Finally you could hit the recall button and you are back to your original sound.
It is SWEET!
My opinion, go with the FX5.
You could find someone who has an FX3 and FX5 and compare.

The four presets mentioned above also have their own preset volume setting. Thought it was worth mentioning. The presets are very easy to setup in the field when getting ready. I usually keep a coaxer and a Ki-Yi on two of the presets. Go with the FX5. If you got the FX3 you could get the upgrade for the price difference, you're only out the shipping. Same goes for any future advances on the FX series callers. Great policy if you ask me!

I just upgraded my FX3 to the FX5... the main determining factor for me was the capability of a visual for the volume level on the remote. The presets are good and are set with a defined volume.

If money is the limiting factor than purchase the FX3... and later you can always upgrade to a FX5 by just paying the difference.

I bought the FX3 and I think it is going to work for me, called in two coyotes with it out of 3 stands, not bad! I do find my self trying to remember what # sound I want to get back to but it still works great. Plus I am still happy with the factory loaded sounds, have not had to change them. Bass Pro has the FX3 for $479 if you are looking for one. Now I need a varmit rifle to match.

I had the FX3 and I now have the FX5 there is no comparison get the FX5 first time around you won't be disappointed!

I am going to Cabelas saturday morning. FX5 It is. Thanks for the advise. one more thing though. Batteries. what do most use. do i have to get anything speical. Thanks Don.

Get some good NiMH rechargeable batteries and a good charger. Don't got with a fast charger, it shortens battery life. This is the one I got when I had a Foxpro532B that takes 4 AA's. (See if they have something comparable to do 8 cells. It's a bit of a pain having to do two charging sessions.)

I does a great job keeping batteries in good shape. Be sure and read this battery primer that BroncoGlen put together for us:

Enjoy the FX5!

I got sick of always recharging batteries... so I no use the external gel cell/lead acid type battery... will last three to four days without recharging.

A lot of my hunting will be in temps below freezing and i didn't think most rechargable batteries worked so well in these temps. I did read that Lithium are good to -40 and rechargeable. Just the sound of gel cell/Acid kind of scares me. What if they leak.

that is the biggest reason i upgraded from an FX3 to an FX5,i have my 4 most used sounds in the pre sets at the pre determined volume and if you want something else just scroll through your sounds,,with the FX3 remote you had to look at the real little letters on a paper list to get the number for all the other sounds,,BELIEVE ME the FX5 remote is far superior to the FX3 remote
if im not mistaken i think my FX3 came with 32 sounds and when i upgraded to the FX5 i got another 18 sounds for a total of 50,,if you buy the FX5 you should get 50 sounds and not 200,,,the FX5 WILL HOLD 200 sounds BUT you only GET 50 sounds with your FX5,,if you want more of the FoxPro sounds you can order them from their website and the FoxPro customer service is second to NONE!

I was amazed with my FX3 and thought how great is this thing..

Then I took a little trip and had mine personally upgraded to the FX5. And I think HOLY CRAP this is way better than the FX3. The capabilities of the remote on the FX5 are without a doubt worth the extra $200 dollars and then some. Not too mention that the upgrade also fix some small problems that I was having with my FX3 as far as range and the remote not working in some areas that I hunt in..

AWESOME..

The Gel Cell/Lead Acid battery is the same battery used for several other portable products (laptops, spotlights, etc.). You can buy the battery kit from foxpro. In my area the temps get well below zero and those little lithium batterys will not last long in those temps... all in all the cost is no more than for the lithium batteries and charger. The only downside is the battery weights in at ~3 to 5 lbs... but with the carry strap that is not an issue.
