Went out today to go deer hunt and just before I got out of my American made truck I changed my mind and decided to wait because the snow was coming later. I figured id track/hunt the deer after the snow tomorrow.

I have been chasing this coyote for a long long time. I could not get him to come into the caller. I took a 4 month break from this location.

I get to my stand which is elevated and started with eastern cottontail for about 5 minutes (I just got this sound with the shockwave and never had it before). Nothing in Flir.

Now it just got dark and I crank it up to 40 with eastern cottontail for another 3-5 mintues. Nothing in the Flir

Then i waited 5 minutes and gave about one minute of coyote locator. about three sequences. Waited one minute and played coy challenge howl for about 30 seconds. then silence..

2 minutes later I look over my shoulder, I try to not make any noise with the office chair, or burn my hand on the heater... and I see red in the flir about 100 yards in the woods. and it was big.

The coyote gets on top of a rock and starts scanning the woods like he has a flir on his head. I drop something in the blind, yell at myself, and then shoot in bewteen two trees.

I see the yote drop. I then start scanning for more and start playing distrees coyote sounds but nothing comes.

After 30 minutes I pack up and look out with the Flir and see the coyote trying to get up and drag himself with his two front paws. I shoot again and DRT. He tried to play dead.

Tomorrow i will weigh the male. I did get to hear the yote give out a distess sound which was cool and it sounds just like the caller on sound level 25.

weighed in at 50.5 lbs

Thanks.

Last night i went out and broke one of my most important rules and it cost me big time.

When scanning a field with the flir ps32 I left the pvs14 off the gun with the 3x mag on it. It should have been on the gun.

By the time I got the 3x magnifier off and the pvs14 on the gun/scope the coyote ran into the woods. It was a terrible feeling in my gut...I was looking for someone to blame.

This is the main reason I need another pvs14, but the wife department has voided any future sales transactions for a while.

Don't feel so bad, we were out last night and had a sounder group of six hogs right in the road in front of us but they spooked for some reason, probably smell.

Then while I was sitting on the cold damp ground waiting for them to come back out into the open, four coyotes, all big dogs, walked down the road towards me and I set the laser on them but did NOT pull the trigger waiting for the hogs to show back up again, came home after midnight with nothing but some good times to show for it!

That'll learn you for not pulling a trigger! he he. Hey, at least you have seen some coyotes. Things are very slow here at the moment.
