just saw an add for the new Fram Boost, supposedly desinged for trucks. Anyone know about these? I went to the website, but I couldnt view it, the net here at the hotel is a liitle slow.

You are better off with the K&N over the Fram unit. However, the really hot ticket with truck cold air intakes is the Volant system. Check out Volantperformance.com. They are a little pricier than the others, but well worth it.

Only use K&N if you don't mind dusting your engine.

I've used only K&N on the last 4 trucks I've had and had no problem's what so ever but I also cleaned and reoiled mine regularly not when they said to do it and all of them had over 100,000 miles on them when I got rid of them. If your truck is a diesel you'll want to do it more often because they get dirty faster with thet turbo sucking air like crazy.BTW two of mine were diesel.

go with air-raid...its cheaper, and pretty much the same thing. Or you could just get a drop in from K&N or True flow..thats what i did...Why?...My 4x4 will never be a hotrod. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Here is the reason I asked. My truck is company provided, a 06 F-150 4x4 ex cab. But they only let me get a 4.6L, and its a gutless pig trying to pull anything or pass on the highway. I need to find another 5 or 10 horsepower at least, if I can, K & N says 5 % if your lucky, and I was hoping something out there under $100 was available to get me there. Thanks

i think the only thing that will get that type of gain for you is a programmer (superchips,hypertech)...for about 300.

and from what i have heard, it wouldnt help much to have the 5.4L in there either...just the word on the street...lol

Unless you are doing oil analysis on your motor oil you're living with blinders on. Once you start to see your silica ppm count rise with the use of K&N filters it'll open your eyes.

The other problem, with any oiled filter, is that over time the oil will begin to coat the mass air flow (MAF) sensor wires and cause damage to the MAF unit. Simply look through automakers technical service bulletin libraries and you will see documentation of this.

K&N's lack of filtration has been proven a number of times. Here are a couple of web pages for starters:
http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

There are really are no gains to using a foam/gauze filter in a mostly stock application. They improve performance on the butt-dyno primarily because of the extra noise they allow gives the illusion of improved performance, especially in turbo charged applications.

An easy way to improve airflow without sacraficing filtration is to go to a larger filter. As an example here is a setup http://community.webshots.com/photo/39529996/1051821760033257109AdBrRG that basically uses a Baldwin 2818 style filter with all the factory air intake ducting removed.
