Funny stories from the gun show this week-end

Good news is the prices are starting to drop. AR's were almost back to normal except for the guy selling his bone stock/used, black Remmy R-15 for $1500. One "kid" had a Savage in 308 and he started telling me and another guy how he could shoot the cap off a pop bottle at 600 yds. I bet him a $100. he couldn't even hit the bottle at 600 yds. No takers. Humm! Another dealer was selling a "Sniper Rifle", it was a Ruger Mini Target. The one with the "thingy" on the end of the barrel. Sniper Rifle????? What people will say to make a sale. At least I enjoyed some humor today.

P.T.Barnum was always credited with the saying, "There's a Sucker Born Every Minuet"....While that has been challenged (the credit) over the years, it's still a truism...

The last one I was at I asked a guy that had alot of millitary ammo...like Lake City stuff if he had any boxes of M118LR. He said what, I said The 7.62x51 long range sniper rounds. Oh, He said..and got real loud...and said YOU can't get that stuff, they send it to ME and I shoot it and send the brass back!! I say OK so do you have any...NO he said...and you can't make it either..I was like I can't get LC-Match brass and IMR 4064, Millitary primers and Sierra 175smk. He said no, that its a special kinda powder and I can't get it. I was like why do you get it then, He said he was on the Presidents 100. OK and then I just walked away. He even stood up out of his chair, all 300 pounds of him...What a weirdo. Gun shows around here are a waist of time and everyone will tell you that.

How proud he must be to be on the "presidents 100". I can't think of a single shooter I know hat wants to even be associated with the pres. Let alone be on the "100".

Local gunshow this weekend, against my better judgement i decided to go. Exact same location as 2 months ago, so likely same vendors. I actually came across, prepare yourself, correctly priced guns. Not all guns, but enough that i had to talk myself out of buying some. Last show the cheapest ar was an oly that looked unsafe for about 14billion dollars, today there were new dpms for 750. Glocks for 550, and there was at least 1 10mm, g20 has been on my list for quite a while but waiting for one of my houses to close so i eventually talked myself out of it.

All told i had to talk myself out of at least 6, and it wasnt easy. No screaming deals, but it was so refreshing to see some not screaming ripoffs. There was still plenty of bs prices, but enough that were reasonable to be noteable.

Gun shows: A place where hoarders and hucksters gather, all competing for the limited supply of chumps and asshats that will overpay. Only worth going for the entertainment and heckling value nowadays. I haven't bought anything in years and after hearing of the rampant price gouging, they're all on my sh!t list as "no buy" zones.

If you added up all the guys at gun shows that claimed to be former SEALS or snipers, you'd have 10 times the number of SEALS and snipers that have ever actually been trained and on active duty.

They are great for a laugh, though.

I disagree, many times gunshows offer opportunities. I am in Wisconsin for a spell and there is a fair amount of gunshow activity. Some shows are small and held in tavern dining rooms. Then table fee is only $20 , so there are always one time type guys clearing out their collections. Not to mention the stuff guys pull out of their closets and are carrying around. I also enjoy snagging deals on bullets. I never pay more than $.08/round for good varmint bullets. Odd lots of a few hundred but the pigeons dont seem to know the diff when I smack em with my Hornet. I scored a cheap extra RCBS press too. Beautiful Bishop walnut stock for $25. Quit talking to the goofballs and look around more.

The last gun show I went to I met some very nice guys and dealers. I also met some of the strangest people I've ever encountered. Case in point was a large gentleman who was selling some of his personal weapons, while looking at a .308 on display at this large guys table me and another guy struck up a conversation about reloading. This large gentleman hearing the conversation asked both of us if we had a license to reload ammo. We both asked what license did he think we needed. He went on to explain to us how we needed to have a license for explosives and we had been breaking the law. He also informed us that he had all of his licenses and was going to turn us in for reloading without a license. I walked away laughing. That was about 6 years ago. Swore off gun shows since.

Gotta agree w/ 2MHG - I find good deals usually on used accessories and little things. Rarely go to buy guns. Get into some good conversations occasionally with dealers and such - always something to learn, if you're listening. I just giggle at the idiots and walk away while they're still talking.
