I had a yote skinned and tanned about a year and a half ago and the thing still stinks real bad. I don't know if its the tanning solution or just the hide itself. How can I clean it? Can I wash it by hand with shampoo or some other soap?
 
It should have been washed before it was tanned.

But washing it now depends on how it was tanned.
Some tanning agents are leeched from the skin when they come in contact with water.
 
I had a friend years ago when I lived in South Texas that would wash his hides the night before He sold them to the Hide Buyer the next day.
He would go to the local Laundry Mat about 2-3 AM and wash his hides then dry them . needless to say they would turn out beautiful, and He always got top Dollar.
If any of the women that used that Laundry Mat would have caught him they might have put him in one of the dryers, but no one ever caught him and he did it for several years.
