Fur friendliness in 22-250’s

Richard, thanks for the clarification. I thought gamekings were all HP bullets. I haven’t reloaded many sierra bullets. I mostly reload Berger and hornady. What kind of exits were you seeing with the soft points? I thought those would stay together better and leave a small sew hole on both sides while still ensuring plenty of penetration on a lion.
no pass through.great bullet for coyotes or mountain lions.same with Lehigh defense.the first 2/3 come apart and explode inside.you may get a 22 cal size hole out the the other side if coyote is close.

I would be pretty nervous if I was in an area with Mtn.Lions LOL. I doubt I would hunt alone, I guess I'm a chicken or just used to being on top of the food chain.

Found a kill. Happen to walk up 30 yards from it and Saw this guy the other day. He thought he was hidden.

Unfortunately it was 2 days before the season. Once the season started he was long gone had the deer all cleaned up.

We have had good luck with Sierra 50 grain blitzking. Majority of the time is a .224 hole
In and no exit. I’ve been shooting some 53 grain vmax lately

that one does not scare me. It's the one that I didn't/don't see that scares me. very cool picture

Here are a few pics of the rifle I am referencing above. I had two of these in different calibers, 243 Winchester and 22-250. I used the action, and bottom metal of the 243 to build another rifle. I kept this 22-250, however the stock is not the original. I took a spill last year and cracked the stock, lucky for me I had kept my other stock. The original [22-250] has a black aluminum butt plate, which is not in the pics. You will see the pictures of the action, bolt, stock [ notice pattern], barrel with factory scope mount, and a full pic of the rifle. The bolt shroud is different on the early actions. I am not a photographer or an English major, so bear with me.
The rifle shoots 50 /45 grain bullets excellent. I hunted with this until my fall on the frozen ground and decided to mostly use this from my truck on the farm. I cover more ground with my Tikkas and my kill numbers are good for 69 years old. I have some info on production date, but can't put my hands on it tonight, will locate info and post.
Thanks for looking... Mark Zero

I've tried probably a dozen different bullets( custom and shelf brands)on coyote out of a handful of 22-250's. Most have some issues, like poor long range accuracy, blow up on close shots, finicky seating depths(tuning), inconsistent lot to lot ogives. Eliminating custom bullets, the Nosler 55 ballistic tip is the one I always have on hand and loaded. Second would be the 50 gr BT. Load the 55 to 3600 ish(I prefer Varget). Good long range accuracy, will stay inside the head on shots under 200 yards, with sewable exits when they occur. Bullets that will not exit heads on shots under 200 yards are my personal choice, as I kill a good percentage of my coyote during the day when they are bedded/sleeping. For about the last 40 years.

Well I got out today to shoot the new to me 22-250. I threw it on an XLR Mg stock. I tried herters 22-250 55 gr soft points that were cheap and I needed brass to reload. They shot one ragged hole. My velocity wasn’t quite what the box said but I could care less. The were 1.1 mils low at 400 yds, 2 mils low at 500 yds and 3 mils low at 600. It was still shooting 1/2 moa at 600. I had time for two stands and got to test them out on the second stand. 2 small holes in the hide at 100yds. I can live with that. For the time being I think I’m going to stick with the soft points. I did pick up some hollow points to reload and try out as well but I’m happy so far with the soft points.
