Fur market.

Do you look for it to ever get better? I've been huntin contest this year but if you ain't winning you ain't getting anything out of it. It'd be nice to see a day when I could get at least $20 out of a good coyote. If it ain't got mange I don't want to leave them laying there to rot.

Probably won't see a rise in fur prices for a long time, if ever. I hope I'm wrong though.

Talking to a few fur guys up here in Canada and they seem hopeful that it's going to get a bit better next year. The one guy said he figures it will stabilize to around what it was before the big Canada Goose boom $40-60 for finished goods. It's not the amazing boom it was but at least finally worth dragging em back to the truck

Not trying to get political here but does some of the decline in the market have something to do with the Russia and Ukraine conflict? I thought I’ve read the European countries were a huge part of the market, as well as china.

I’ve never really paid attention to it but I’m interested now and have started to keep my coyotes this year. I don’t really care to make money at this point but want to start tanning some myself.

Only way I see to make decent money these days is to tan them yourself. People for whatever reason are buying finished pelts for decoration, or other uses. My wife sells them on marketplace, Poshmark, eBay, etc when I’ve got a good pile.

I’d give up a lot to have a good market again, but I think those days are long gone and never coming back

That's what stinks too. Here we can't sell any part of any wild animal unless it's to a licensed fur buyer in Oklahoma. I couldn't put furs up on eBay or anything like that. You're not even supposed to hold furs until the market gets better in Oklahoma without filling out paperwork to do so. Anything I don't sell to a fur buyer gets thrown in a pile. Even that has to be done right or it's against the law.

A lot of times it's probably way easier to just leave them where they got shot. I don't really care to shoot bobcats much anymore. I ain't selling one for $50.

That definitely has a effect on the fur market. Russia was a big buyer of fur, and there are 4 tanneries in the Ukraine according to the fur buyer I've used. Russia isn't buying much and they damn sure aren't sending fur to the Ukraine to be tanned.

I'm selling bleached sculls for around $50 at Craft Sales and such.
I cut the head off skin it and simmer it in water with Borax for a dayish.
If it's sunny a week in the sun or, I use hair products to bleach it.

I hope so!!!!!

How does she get by posting them on marketplace?

I listed an elk rug for sale there, & it got pulled due to their policy against selling animal parts/taxidermy.
I dunno. She just posts them every once in awhile and sells a few when I’ve got enough put up. I don’t have Facebook, I don’t know anything about it. Just know we’ve sold quite a few on that marketplace thing
