I sold my coyotes last week. I got $30 for the best pelts and $8 for a couple of rubbed ones. They averaged out to $19.65ea. Not bad money, but was looking to do a little better.

Reeper, was that green or put up? I talked to a local trapper today. He was running about 185 traps. He said prices were up for green hides. He knew a cat going for $55 and abut $30 for coyote. He said coons were about $7. I plan on contacting some buyers this week to confirm.

Yellowhammer, that was put up fur. I am a little new to this so I spent an ungodly amount of time on those pelts. They were skinned, washed in the washing machine w/shampoo and conditioner, fleshed (as good as I could do it anyway), and then stretched and dried. Oh, and some of them required extensive sewing. I am now suprised at how large of hole can be repaired with needle and thread. Then I brushed them out so they looked really nice. They all looked like they were having a good hair day. LOL. Anyway, I think my return on time invested was somewhere around $1.36/hr. A lot of the ones I had done up were this years pups, so that probably hurt my average. There were just a bunch of pups running around OR this year.

$30 seems pretty high for a Texas coyote, but I don't know much about it really. Cats, from what I here, are averaging around $150, but I can't seem to call one this year to save my life, so I have no first hand knowledge.

I really hate to say it, but I think I'm about done calling this season. OH! that hurt.

Hey teeger where you selling those ks cats that high. Ive seen a few awsome ones go around 100 but avgs have only been around 60 or 70. Where in ks you from im from Wilson, between Hays and Salina.

The Ok Trappers Fur sale was saturday in Okmulgee. I don't know what the average was on cats but I heard from a buddy that went that the high was $180.

I called R-P Outdoors today in Mansfield La. and was given these prices for green pelts:

Bobcat - $30.00 and down (must be tagged)
Gray fox-$13.00 and down
Coons - $4 and down
Otter - $100.00 and down (must be tagged)
Red fox -$16.00 and down
Coyotes - $6.00-$10.00

Looks like those reds & grays will give you the most bang for your buck. Plentiful (in the right areas), easy to skin and little if any fleshing before putting them on the stretcher.

Take care,

Rusty

You're right Rusty. Not as plentiful here as where you are though. These were raw pelt prices, no fleshing or stetching involved.

I have a nice bunch of coyotes and grey foxes. I will take 45 bucks for the coyotes and 30 for the greys. They are all from Indiana with one coyote from the Arizona mountains. If interested email me at

Definitely put them up if you can. Not only can you sell to a variety of buyers, but if someone gives you ridiculously low prices you can walk out with the hides. Not so with green fur.
It takes a few years to get to know most buyers and if they will pay a decent price for a decent fur hide.

You need to know what you have and about what it is worth before you go to the buyer. You can take a green hide home and then process it yourself.I don't recommend taking green hides in late in the season as the buyer knows you will most likely take what he offers. Another thing that some buyers like to do is offer you 2 to5 dollars more on a couple of your top hides and make you feel good then give you 2 or 3 dollars less for the 20 or 30 that our in the middle. You go home bragging how you got a better top than anyone else but shafted in the terms of total dollars.

I attended a fur auction here in Oklahoma about two weeks ago. The prices paid were very fair. As Lonnie had posted earlier there was a bobcat that went for $180 dollars. The cats seemed to do the best. Alot sold for $75 to $110. The rest of the fur ran pretty close to what you guys have been quoting. There also did not seem to be much price difference between put up fur as compared to the green furs. Of course I was just a casual observer, still riding that learning curve so to speak. Hope this info helps!
God Bless

When quoating fur prices, please state if they are for green, put up (stretched and dried), or otherwise.

This will help eliminate confusion.

That seems odd to me.

I sold the few I had this last week. all green in the round and frozen.

bobcat $225 big male.
$ 25 small female with big hole in chest.
coon $ 10
mink $ 8
$ 4
muskrat$ 1 each

did not want to give the little female away but the wife was not happy about haveing them in the frezer. I heard that some of the cats sold for as high a $300 this year but it sounds like there were alot of then taken this year too.
