FX3 and 12 volt battery???

I finally have the money to order my FX3 caller but I have a simple question for some of you members. How many of you guys that either use the FX3 or FX5 use it with the FX series 12-volt Gel-cell battery? I think snowcamoman uses his with a 12-volt battery but does anyone else use one? I’m thinking about going with the 12 volt pack when I get my FX3 because I want a rock solid setup.

Also does anyone have some suggestions on were to order the FX3 from?

The foxpro's are basically the same price no matter where you purchase them but I bought mine from allpredatorcalls.com. I've bought several things from them and they will treat you right!

I have the FX5 with the 12v battery. I am very happy that I went with 12v battery. I hunted friday night all day saturday, sunday night and last night on the same charge and its still good to go. I know most have the smaller lighter batteries but I am glad I have the 12v. It does way 4 lbs but its worth it. I put it and the call in a 2.5 gallon plastic bucket to carry it in then I use the bucket to sit on. I did carry it in a small backpack but my gun would hit it when I slung it on my shoulder.

I use my FX5 either way. If I am planning a long snowshoe trip, I'll go with the internal AA pack. If I'm on a long weekend on the snowmachine, I toss it all in a small backpack with the 12 volt. You don't have to use the large 8AH SLA battery if you choose not to. I use a variety of sizes, with the 3AH, being on my favorites for weight and size. It'll run a long time on the 3AH battery. Hope that helps.
 
I have the batteries from other callers, but you can buy them at most battery places that sell backup batteries for alarm systems. I wired up my own and soldered on the same jack the recharger has.

I was just going to ask you what you meant when you were talking an 8AH SLA battery and the 3AH battery and using them with the E-call. I think I might know what you referring to but I’m not 100% positive. So these are similar to the batteries used as back up batters for car alarms? So they you just custom wire this up to work with the FoxPro caller? Would you have any detailed pics of this? This is something I defiantly would also like to try.

The difference between the 8AH and 3AH batteries is just the amp hour (AH) rating on them. They both will provide 12 volts of power, just that the 8AH will provide 8 hours of electrical current if the device draws 1 amp per hour. The 3 amp hour will provide 3 hours. I like the 3AH because it's smaller and a bit easier to tote in the pack I use. I use the 8AH if I'm going on really long hunts and don't want to mess around with a bunch of other batteries. Also, if I'm going to be using maximum volume for extended periods, I use the 8AH. The internal AA's work excellent for most calling and have done great in the cold. I use the larger batteries when I'm howling for wolves and moose hunting mostly. I can get a picture posted later this evening for you, but it's basically the battery with a wire harness on the battery with a jack on the end of that harness that fits into the FX5 charging jack.

I'll post one tomorrow morning since my home connection takes hours to upload anything. Personally, I think you should get the 8AH battery setup from FoxPro and then you can always pick up another smaller battery down the road and use the harness that comes with the 8AH setup. Then you'll have all bases covered.

Here is a picture of the 12 volt 2.9AH battery with the jack for the FoxPro and another of a 14.8 Volt 2AH Lithium Ion pack for the FoxPro and Minaska M1. The other shows a second harness for plugging into the M1. I usually strap the Li-Ion pack to the M1, but left it as is to show you how it's wired up and plugs in.

I have an external 12V SLA battery I would like to use with the FoxPro and my external speaker but I would need a plug for the caller.

Thanks for posting the pics. After looking at your pics it looks like a very simple setup and it is defiantly something I could easily make. Thanks again for pics and the link to the adapter/plug.

BTW, I just received my FX3 and 8AH setup, everything works great and the weight of the batter is not that bad.

Glad I could help. With the harness that comes with that 8AH battery, you can use it on any other type of 12 volt battery with those type of connectors. I usually just solder my connections because my callers ride on my snowmachine and see trails that'll jar the fillings out of your head. I just solder it and forget about it.
