Do you use one? Which one do you have and why? I just found out I'm getting a Truth cam 46 ultra for Xmas. Anybody use this one? Any good? I want to capture some video of the cat or cats using a particular tank in the area we hunt, and see when and whats going on

Trail Cameras are addictive....You'll love using them and they catch a lot if Animals You didn't even know are out there! The Primos Cameras are pretty good,be sure to use good batteries and buy an extra SD card so You can swap them out when You go out to check the camera.

For more info on Your Camera go to the following Site to see how they rate, the good and bad qualities and how to deal with any issues they may have?

I'm using four of the Reconx and two of the Truth cams. Both do a good job. If I had to choose one or the other it would be the Reconx. They seem to take better pictures have better range and light up better with the IR at night. But the truth cams are a lot less expensive, are a lot easier to set up and switch settings then the Reconx.

i use HCO scout guard. been using it for 5 years, battery life is excellent, 8 AA it will last at least 6 months. pics at night are ok,i have seen better, other than that i am very pleased.

I bought a moultrie d40 i think at walmart a few years back for $25 clearance. I didn't know much about them, so I thought it must not be very good if it was on clearance for that cheap, but it would be worth the risk. Wish I would have bought the other they had, because it is a great camera, and even now I can't find them cheaper than about $80 anywhere.
As a lot of cameras, it eats through batteries pretty fast, especially in cold weather. I got rechargeable, but it seems like I am constantly recharging the batteries. I just got the solar panel from moultrie yesterday. Can't wait to set it up. I can't compare it to any other cameras out there, cause its the only one I've owned.
Sometimes the highlight of my day is when I get to check my game camera pics. I get bummed if there is nothing good on there, LOL.

Thanks for the input, did read a couple of different reviews and got some conflicting information on the picture quality, one said over exposed alot and another said good quality. Don't know how long I will leave it out, don't want it stolen but I know there are one or two cats working this area

I hope You used a lock and cable to at least secure Your camera from being stolen? They also make the metal Bear Safe lock boxes for added protection...sadly enough one of the worse things is to have a trail camera stolen or damaged by Trespassers or Thiefs!

I buy the plastic coated Bicycle cables and a good Master Lock,You have to check the size of the opening on the lock hole on most trail cameras to get a lock that will fit the opening, some cameras have openings that are too small for a normal size lock and a smaller one is needed to lock up your camera, when most are used over time the plastic brackets end up breaking and You have to go without locking them or resort to getting a metal lock box any ways!

The newer Moultrie M-100,M-80 & Black Flash M-80 XT are small and great working cameras,as with any some will have their issues or problems. For a good fast trail camera the Cuddeback Capture (white flash) can't be beat, the Reconyx are even better quality at a much higher price [beeep]! Some trail cameras have the built in viewing screen which makes it nice to see what's been there while Your out in the woods or hunting area!

I dont wanna be the downer in this thread BUT here is my experience with trail cameras

I have an older Primos 35 camera and just bought a 46 this year. I had good luck for about a year with the 35, then it started acting up and not taking pictures like it should. It still works, just sometimes finiky. The 46 I had worked for 1 month and then the LEDs stopped working so it wouldnt take night photos. Im returing this camera to go to a moultrie

Ive owned 4 moultrie cameras and I love all of them. Have had no trouble. Our newest one is the D55IRXT and it takes great day/night photos. Ill be exchanging the Primos for this camera.

Just my experiences with the camera. I know lots of guys love thier Primos cameras

My experience has mainly been with Wildgame Innovations cameras, though my son and I have used Moultries, Stealthcams and Cuddebacks. All have worked well at times, and other times they haven't. I currently have three WGI X6C cameras and one D8. At times they work great, couldn't ask for better, then they seem to get stubborn and not work at all.

One night I sat in a cabin with a night vision scope and watched a red fox come and go at a bait site for approximately 50 minutes. The X6C got one video clip of the whole affair. Yet on other nights, the camera gets several clips. As a result, I have resorted to setting two cameras at a site in hopes that one will at least give me some clue as to what is there. I've seen times that neither camera revealed what got the bait.

I have a friend who has used Bushnell and Wildgame Innovations cameras, and he has the same issues I have with both. Trail cameras seem to be bitter sweet, and as my friend recently pointed out to me, they should have been named "trial cameras" instead. LOL.

I can post many good photos and video clips taken by my cameras, but I can't begin to describe the frustration I have had when they suddenly stopped working and didn't get any photos or video of the critter that took the bait.

If anyone ever produces one that works as it's supposed to, for a price most of us can afford, then I project it will be a hot seller.

My thoughts are to read lots of reviews ( like I have ), make a decision on which one, and get it. Most likely you will get some good photos / videos sometimes, and other times it will almost make you lose your temper.

Enjoy the photos / videos that you do get.

Another thing to get in to is...if Your technical and mechanically inclined is the Homebrew Trail Camera's You set up and put together Yourself,You can use a better quality digital camera and put a board together inside a case and do it all Yourself. Most Hunting Sites have a Homebrew Section or You can go to the same site I mentioned (Chasin-Game) and learn how to do it on there!

I still have 2 Moultrie I-60 trail camera's (6.0 megapixels with built in Viewer)that have lasted me about 5 years now...and I have run them year round for at least the past 2 years. You can still buy them at the Moultrie Web Site and at a few other major Hunting Supply Stores.I have 1 Moultrie I-35 thats still going but takes poor quality pic's,my D-55IR is a good camera with long battery life and I love my M-80 and my M-100 that has the built-in Viewer! The M-80 and M-100 can be set to be a Plot Watcher,a Trail Camera or Both.

The newer Bushnell Trail Camera's are pretty good wih 8.0 megapixels and I've heard several brag on the Lil Acorn trail Camera's too...lets not forget the Trail Camera's that can send a pic to Your phone or Web Site or E-mail,that way You don't have to go in and disturb Your Hunting Spot and it can double as a Security Camera on Your Hunting Property,Farm or Home!Trail Camera's have come a long ways from the first ones that were set along trails and tripped by a string hung across the trail!

same experince here with the truth 46 I beleive

the whole thing got wet inside, swampped the SD card and the batteries leaked all over inside too from being wet

pretty well ruined

I run moultrie M80's now

For a guy that's never seen a Moose in the wild those are pretty cool photos. As for trail cams my Stealth Cam runs through batteries faster than my ex-wife did credit cards. Plus it had software update issues. Would not buy another. They are a lot of fun even in the backyard.
