Gander Mountain - Out of the Reloading Business

First heard about it on SGW.

Went to the local store here in Kenosha, WI and they had a section about a long as my kitchen table left.

I have a Gander MC and earn points on purchases and usually use it to buy bullets. Went to their site today and they are just about out of everything. No Sierra bullets, out of brass, no Nosler BT...

So, I'm cancelling this card and moving over to Cabelas. What a shame. And what is even more puzzling, is they have this increased effort on selling firearms. Guess they don't think those firearm buyers reload.

Thgey went down to next to nothing around here a few years ago. Then they started carrying some stuff again. It still isn't that much, nor what it used to be, and prices are way over inflated........

I used to love getting their magazines years ago. It was between cabelas and them with my paycheck.

. Ahh to be young and dumb again.

They quit here in nny as well,I guess they had to make room for more pink camo.
I liked going there and was always picking up something now I could give a rats azz if I go in the store.

I quit going there about 2 years ago for hand loading
components. I was in a panic when I realized I was low on
308 Win ammo, for an upcoming deer season...About 3 days
before season! So I head to Scheels, NO Combined
Technology(Nosler bullet/Win coating) 150 gr. .308 caliber
bullets! So down the road to Gander I go. Yup they have my
bullets...Except they were 2x the price I could get them for
at several on-line vendors, including shipping.

OK they had me over a barrel, due to my own lack of
preparation. So I paid the price, and vowed to never return
for hand loading components. Actually I went once last year
for a panic buy on some fishing plastic baits, and again found
them because no one else would be that stupid to pay their
price.

I predict they will be sold or bankrupt in one year.

I was at G.M. in, (Royal Front, VA.) last week. They had 243 Win brass for $29.99 for 50. I can buy the same stuff here at home for $21. Also their reloading section was horrible. I also remember back in the 80's it was them or Cabela's. Too bad.

I buy zero reloading components from Gander or Cabelas. Their prices have always been crazy high compared to everyone else.

I couldn't agree more. They have always been higher than any other store in my area.

There's been more than a couple of threads on their gunsmiths screwing
up and them giving the customers grief over it so I have always stayed away.

I don't know if you guys are seeing this also but the GM in Kenosha also seems to have either moved all its guns behind a counter or stopped selling a lot of used guns and moved to an online model.

I agree, at this rate, they will be out of business in no time.

Cabelas does have some deals once in a while. Had a flyer not too long ago for 20% off all reloading supplies. Even with their inflated prices, that 20% still made for some good deals.

Personally, I like Scheels if I have to visit a store or I order online. Even with Hazmat fees, Powder Velley and or Grafs is typically cheaper.

Too bad though. Used to be able to buy shotgun wads and lead at GM many years ago for a good price. Hence the reason I opened the card. No more. I'm done with them.

I agree with you all on this. GM here in columbus has stupendous prices on there ammo and reloading supplies and a poor selection at that. I went to buy shotgun slugs there let week. The Remington slugs that I wanted were 20.99 for 5 rounds!!! I turned around and walked out.

Traverse City Gander Mt. sells Hodgdon 4350 for $29.95 a pound. Local sporting goods store close by sells for $24.99.
Gaylord Walmart has limited choices but are the cheapest of all.

You guys have no idea how bad it is at Gander Mtn. I worked at the local store for about 2yrs selling guns. The company as a whole is pretty much a joke..... The only reason Gander Mtn is still in business is because they are more or less in areas where they dont have any competition....

I've understood that Cabelas owns Gander Mountain, along with Dunns.

I live 3 miles from Gander Mt. Let's just say I know them pretty well.

Have been to stores in NY and Wisconsin also.

Gander hires new gunsmiths and they don't stay long. They go long periods of time with no smith.

The saddest thing to me is, there used to be a very nice Sportman's Whorehouse 5 miles in the other direction from here, that had a TON of reloading stuff at reasonable prices, and they went out of business. Yet Gander Mt. , at least "my" Gander Mt., does very well, while having hardly any reloading inventory, and selling ammo at outrageous prices........
