Gator Hunting

Well I plan on doing a self guided gator hunt this year down here in Palm Beach County. I assume some of you guys have done this before, and im wondering what all do I need? Im planning on harpooning the gator with a modified sliptip from my speargun mounted to a pole. No guns are permitted. Im also considering just using one of my spearguns with the shaft attached to some line with a bouy. I also want to know of a way to mount a bangstick to a pole. Any tips or advice is welcome.
Thanks

Illegal in Florida. You can use a baited peg, dont know how that would work out. You can use spearguns, spears, harpoons, bows/crossbows, snare, and snatch hooks. Bangsticks for dispatching boatside only.

Cowboy up there Camo. You're supposed to jump in and wrassel them to the boat, and then hit "dispatch" them with a tire thumper.

Are you going to use a bow? You can get a bunch of tips on Bowsite.com. I have been dreaming about a gator hunt for years, just need time and money!

Now that im thinking about it, I might borrow my friends bow. I'll look at bowsite. What kind of head would you use? Standard bowfishing head. Use to do quite a bit of that as a kid

If I had a choice I would use something that explodes! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifSeveral companies specialize in arrows/heads just for gator. My understanding is, the arrow is just a harpoon that brings them close enough to the boat to “dispatch”. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Last year I downloaded the hunter’s guidebook from the Florida State Fish and Wildlife (Fish and Game?). My favorite quote from the guidebook was something like “Never assume the alligator is dead. Even after it is in the boat.” What? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif The one thing that kept going around in my head was, they make these rules because somebody needed it and didn’t have it.
Anyway good luck let me know how it turns out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
