Gen 3 or Gen 4.....

Greetings All
I am thinking about getting a Glock model 23
The store has both Gen 3 and Gen 4 available, but I don't know enough about the Gen 4 to make in informed decision.
I know the early models of the Gen 4 had some problems, but don't know what the exact problem was, or what to look for or how to determine if the gun I'm looking at is an early model with a problem or a later model.
As far as the differences between the two, I know the Gen 4's have interchangeable back-straps and a new two spring recoil spring system.
Has anyone out there owned/shot both and have an opinion on both versions?
Any comments on the new spring design?
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

I have a gen 3 19, neighbor has the gen 4 19.

No accuracy/reliability issues with his or mine. The gen 4s larger mag release is a nice improvement over the gen 3s...didn't fiddle with backstraps so I cannot comment on that. I'm not much help...I'd be happy with either.

I've shot both generations. I have a 21, 17 and 26 in Gen 4. I really like the grip much better on the Gen 4's. Rumor has it Glock replaced the few internal parts that were presenting problems on the Gen 4's in Oct-Nov of 2011. Take a look at the date on the package containing the test fired casing in the box of the Gen 4. If it's in 2012 you'll have nothing to worry about.

My G17 Gen 4 was purchased "as new" by me. I asked the gun shop owner what the deal was and why it was a much lower than new price. He said he sold it new to some guy who brought it back in after firing no more than 20 rounds and saying it wouldn't feed. The gun shop owner took it home and fired 50 rounds through it with no problems.

Well, I bought it and have nearly 2,000 flawless rounds through it to date and use it for my production gun in USPSA action matches. Some people just don't know how to operate a hand gun but do know how to get on the internet and complain. Check out the "general glocking" sub forum on GlockTalk. You'll see what I mean.

Grab the one that feels good to you.....they are both great models.

Got a Gen 4 Glock 17 right after Christmas and I like it. It's "born on" date was November 2012. It seems to function just like any other Glock to me.

I have both Gen 3s and Gen4s. I have had brass to the
face with both Gens. A trip to the Glock armorer, at a
GSSF match fixed the G17 Gen4, completely, but the G30SF(Gen3),
still tosses the occasional case close to straight up for
some medium power hand loads. Full Power Self Defense ammo
goes strongly to the 3-5 o'clock. My 4 Glocks in both Gens
have been rock solid reliable, even with wimpy extraction.

I like the Gen 4 grip and mag release better over the Gen 3s.
The grip change doesn't do much for me, but others may find it
useful.

I would buy the one that feels best in your hand.
