Getting coyotes to come out in the open

Right now Im sitting here watching one of my Randy Anderson Videos. IDK what state they are in right now but it is defintley an Eastern State..Im watching coyote after coyote come right out into an open field in broad daylight.

This never ever hardly works for me. I can think of 4-5 times Ive called coyotes out in the open.

My question is..Is there some secret to gettin them in the open? I usually just get in the thick stuff with them and it has worked so far but Id love to call more open places.

Glad you brought that question up, I too have not had much luck calling into wide open fields. Although I generally have to hunt state land and there are not too many fields, just some thick stuff. So that makes for quick shots.

Here in Idaho, it's pretty common. I've had many come across bare ground or snow. Definitely easier in early season though. I wish I could say there was some secret to it. I think it's just a different game where you're at.

If you'll get the open area downwind of you, often their desire to move downwind of the sound source will overcome their desire to stay in cover. Depending on how skittish they are, they might be moving pretty fast, but they'll pretty reliably break cover to get a whiff. Then it's a matter of a lipsqueak, bark, or HEY! to startle them into a shot opportunity.

I agree. To pull a coyote out in the open, I send my downwind in the middle of it. If they want to get my wind, then they have to expose themselves. A decoy may also help, as it could give them the confidence they need to come on in.

Also, it could be tricky to pull them into an open field that faces a busy road, one that people stop and take pop shots at them with. Look for those pockets of open fields that are surrounded by cover or out of line of sight of a road.

Thanks Guys...I have a Whirling Woodpecker. DOnt use it very often but I could break it out again.

The wind thing makes perfect sense...now I feel dumb for not thinking of that on my own lol.

Id agree here. Id bet that for the most part, alot of the best videos are shot on private land that folks have exclusive rights to hunt."Not all" No pressure, and no one out there training the Coyotes what not to do would sure improve a Guys numbers. But then again if there are lots of Coyotes in your area, the chances should go up by quite a bit. Think of it as fishing in a lake with 50 fish, and then going to the same size lake with 500 fish. Skill and proper lures/bait still come into play, but the numbers would mathmaticaly have to get larger.

I have had the same problem with some of these educated Utah coyotes. The first day i used my mojo critter last year i called two coyotes into shotgun range. both came over 300 yards across wide open fields. The decoy has made a bid difference so far.
