Getting rid of Ticks

Many moons ago I asked the same question when recieving a burst bottle package from Cabela's. It got all over my skin. It is intended to dry initially but Cabela's assured me of no issues.
Aside from obsessions to pursue coyotes I've not noticed any other symptoms.

The concentrate at farm supply or vet shops is a lot cheaper, if you want to support china, the clintons and get ripped off by a name brand go to walmart...

We bought a bottle of concentrate a couple years ago for less than $18 and have made gallons of spray to use on horses.

I've been using Sawyers for a few years now, best thing I have found for tick and mosquito's. I occasionally use deet on my neck and head, but the smell just turns me off when I am hunting. Never really figured out the whole wash thing don't really wash my hunting gear, kind of figured the more I use it the more it smells like the ground I am hunting.

I am the same way Z custom. I have never washed my hunting gear. I always make sure I have a base layer that touches my body that I can wash but my First Lite wool camo has never been washed and it smells like dirt.

I was just at Runnings picking up some horse stuff and I checked out the permethrin. They had 24oz bottle of Sawyers for $14 at 0.5% and they had an 8oz bottle of 13% concentrate for under $7. If I did my math right that would give you just over 2 gallons of spray at 0.5%... For $7.

They had much larger bottles of concentrate for a little better deal but for hunting use $7 would last you years.

I have read that sawyers has an ingredient to bind it to clothing and help it endure multiple washings along with extended uv exposure. It lists about 6 washings and over a month life which I have experienced.
The new insect shield(permethrin) shows 70 washing life which is 10 times sawyers.
Livestock permethrin works but there must be a difference in ingredients to see this kind of variance in advertised lifespan.

I think it is 13% 8oz/.5% = v2
So 208=v2. 208-8oz of 13% perm =200 oz of water.
1 gallon 80 oz would be your final volume of solution.
Disclaimer I was a C student in college Chemistry.

Keep solution off skin only wear clothes when completely dry, I try hard not to sweat in treated clothes that make contact to skin.

Since my trip schedule is so uncertain, I haven't worried too much about the life span of the feed store version. I often can't remember exactly how long it has been or how many times clothing has been washed since I sprayed them.

I do know I've never had a tick since using permethrin (7-8 years) and I know that it survives at least three washings and four + weeks. Not worth taking a chance, so when unsure, I just spray again; it's very economical in bulk.

Regards,
hm

I trust your math more than mine.

I have only sprayed my gear 2-3 times a season, we have a pretty serious tick issue in New England(just ask the Moose population). I bought 2 cans of the aerosol Sawyers 3 years ago, I have not even gone through the first can. I am not sure how much you really need, it seems to work well and I don't think you need to apply it all that often. My concern would be over application, it is pretty obvious what it does to ticks, I would hate to suffer those effects.

DEET was mentioned earlier in the thread, be careful getting that stuff on your gear. DEET will melt plastic and take the finish off wood. I quit using it 25 years ago after finding permethrin.

I mentioned DEET. I you want to keep mosquitoes away also would this be the ting to use. I have been and have had no issues with either so far. I apply it to my clothes before I go out and let it dry before I put it on and then use it on exposed hands and head area. Try not to sit in heavy grass or anything to tick friendly also. Have some Permethrin but am a little more cautious of using this as read some information on it and it's safety that were not to great.
