Ghillie - Is Rancho Safari back up and running

I'm looking for one of their Ultra-Light 3/4 length ghillies in Mossy Oak Break-Up, but I don't see it listed on their website. Any body got any syggestions?

I have one of their ghillies and I like it a lot. You might have to call them to get exactly what you are looking for. I've been told they will make pretty much anything you ask for.

Good hunting

They are not up yet, and I do not know when or if they will be any time soon.
I sell the suits and wish they would get back in production. Great product. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In reading all the posts on the forum, it seems that the 3/4 length poncho is the preferred length?

A number of the posts say the pants snag on stuff and are a waste of time, and it sounds like the jacket/hood doesn't break up your profile enough; is that a fair assessment?

I don't agree. When siting, most of the time the ground cover hides your legs. I have the short jacket and hood and find it more than enough.

Agreed on the sitting part. We walked up on a grey fox at 50 yards yesterday getting into position and it just stared at us trying to figure out what the heck those 2 blobs floating across the ground were. He's lucky we were on the way in and not on the way back to the truck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm glad I got mine when I did.

I chose the poncho type suit. I just started using it this season but it seems to really confuse animals as to what they are looking at. When moving to get a shot at a coyote, if they catch you, they look for a second and then turn their attention right back looking for "the rabbit". I've walked right up on wild range cattle, jackrabbits, and the fox yesterday. There's just not the same recognition.

It DOES take some getting used to. It snags on stuff...catclaw will hang you up and almost trip you sometimes. Getting over a barbed wire fence is a PITA. Even getting in and out of the truck requires a technique. It's kinda like wearing a long dress I guess. When I first started using it I thought it might end up in my vast pile of unused hunting gadgets but I'm getting used to it now and sold on it's effectiveness.

You build them. Cheaper than buying them and you get what you want, not what is offered. PM me and I will send you the plans on how to do it.

I have a better picture somewhere but can't find it. Imagine that!! I'll get a better one of how it looks on stand with the hood and all next time I'm out. Like Lance said, can't get one right now unfortunately.

Rancho Safari will be up and running by mid Feb. 2008. They did get burned out in the California wild fires but are busy getting things going again. I talked to the owner about a week ago and not only did he lose his business in the fire but also his own home.

I use the Shaggie everytime I hunt coyotes and they work well. For you guys that get hung up on fences or have trouble getting in and out of trucks, why don't you just roll it up and carry it by the shoulder strap to the hunting stand then put it on? That is how I use it and never have a problem getting hung up. If I am stocking an animal or going to crest over a hill where I will set up and don't want to be seen then I will stop and put it on, otherwise I carry it over my shoulder with the strap rolled up.

I think Rancho Safari makes the best ghillie out there and I have tried or made just about all of them. If you want more info on Rancho Safari or how to get one before Feb. send me an e mail at : yotehunt101@hotmail.com and I think I can find someone who has one to sell.

I use the same suit as Crapshoot and in the same Jerry Flage, with facemask & boonie hat. Never leave home without it!! Sorry to hear that they got burned out & hope they do get back in business. They make great stuff and Jerry is a great guy to deal with! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I used to do just that but decided that wearing it all the time was LESS hassle than putting it on and taking it off 15-20 times a day. It's just like anything else....the more you use it, the better you get at using it. My partner hasn't been getting out as much as I have and I was laughing at him the other day having the same issues that I used to have. He was hung up in a fence for a good five minutes and I was laughing so hard I couldn't help him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
