Going through a huge 22 magnum and 22 hornet phase right now!

I had a TCR a few years back in hornet and it was very accurate with 40gr Noslers. The first load I tried worked like a dream. Knocked groundhogs flat. If I were to buy a hornet today it would be a CZ, I seem to remember Savage putting out a hornet recently, with all the good things I hear about Savage I might consider one of them if the price was right.
 
Trukreltrog, I don't currently own a Ruger, but the ones I have had and fired shot well. Sounds like you just havn't found the bullet/powder/bedding job it likes yet.
 
you have an alternative, a 223 loaded with 12-14.3g of Blue Dot will yield 3000-3200 fps with extreme accuracy with the 40g bullet of your choice.

Blue dot will yield 2650 with the 50's.

You can shoot 600-900 rounds without cleaning, report of a Hornet, and very little barrel heat.
 
I had a NEF Handi-Rifle in 22 hornet once, sold it due to extraction problems. But I sure do miss having a Hornet, going to have to get another someday.

I think that all these guys complaining about the Ruger 77/22's just don't know what kind of ammo to shoot through them! Alot of guys are into high velocity's and when it comes down to it, the Hornet wasn't designed to be a .204. I think the Hornet is designed to shoot the 45 grain bullets the best and I see so many trying to shoot lightweight v-max's and it kills the accuracy in some cases! A rifle doesn't need to have high velocity's to be accurate and put varmints down! I own a .204 and love shooting it also, but the .22 Hornet has always been more enjoyable for me.
 
I have a little Savage 219 in 22H very accurate for a 50+yr old rig. Has the nicest case colour. It likes 46gr Win HPs and LiLgun.

I know shot placement is everything with small caliber rounds but are Hornets legit Coyote killers ..and how far can I expect to get lead pipe kills?
 
Before you consider the 218 Bee you might want to check ammo prices or availability of brass for reloading, the last I checked Midway expected brass in June. In the hornet, you should have energy enough out to around 150 yards with lead pipe shot placement.
 
ive been thinking about getting a 22magnum as well .but my buddy say the 17hmr is better & more accurate .i need one for night hunting

I would also like to have one in that 5x7x28 my buddy has it in the fnh handgun awsome gun & accurate hardly any recoil what so ever .

the magnum has better knock down power! the 17 is faster! i sold my 17 a while back for a magnum and never looked back
 
Just made a deal on a Savage 35M bolt gun in 22WMR...after this storm I will dial it in and post a range report...for 150 bucks I don't think I got hurt.
