Gonna buy myself a Christmas present.

YEP. Going this afternoon to buy myself a Christmas present.

All I need to decide is if it is going to be a S&W Shield or a Glock 43.

Decisions, decisions.

I really really really like my M&P Shield 9mm. I was a die hard glock fan too. Just sold my Glock 27, I carry the Shield 9 and a 4.25" barrel M&P Pro Series 9 now. Love the ergonomics. The Shield is a good shooter too. No experience with the G43 other than holding one at the sales counter.

Both outstanding pistols. Handle them, shoot them and THEN decide which one fits YOU best. Don't buy based on reviews, opinions or anything other than your own personal comfort. You can't make a bad decision between those two.

You can't beat the Quality of the Glock Handguns,I have the Smaller Conceal Carry Model 42 .380 and it's a nice Gun...only down side is it does not have a Safety on it like most Handguns.I usually just have mine Un-loaded then put the loaded clip in it and can always eject a shell in it if need be or I load a bullet in the chamber when out in the Woods!

Sir, don't overlook the Springfield XDs. Very compact package available in 9 or 45. The 45 is surprisingly controllable and, as you can imagine of a .45, packs a considerable punch. I suspect the 9 would be a pussycat.

The Shield is a good choice too. I don't have one, but am impressed by their handling and build quality.

I could personally never warm up to Glocks, though their track record speaks volumes.

Have fun with the shopping and shooting!

Both the Shield and the G43 are excellent. Let me muddy the water, take a hard look at the Ruger LC9s Pro series. I am an M&P guy, love 'em. Carry one daily. I packed Glock professionally and still own a G20 and G19. Like the Glock plenty. Carried Sig professionally, great handguns. Never cared much for the Ruger centerfire semi auto pistols. I decided recently to purchase a new 9mm handgun in genre you are looking at. I've owned the small Kahr, Sig, S&W, Glock, ect. I recently went to a range where I could rent anything I wanted. You might be surprised at which gun won my shootout contest at the range. I'll say it again, take a hard look at the LC9s Pro...

The shield 8s good, buddy's girl runs one. I always carry a g27. Kind of wish I went with a g26, but I am attached to old trusty. Tried on a g43 the other day and did a size comparison to my 27. The g43 is taller, slightly longer, and only a miniscule amount thinner. G26 all day. Check out the lc9s pro. Shoots good and will fit in most men's pant pockets.

GC, I have shot the LC9 and it just doesn't it my hand very well. The Shield is my choice, but I can't find one locally. Gotta wait until the seasonal rush is over and they come back into stock. Unlike you, I only carried professionally (private firm) for about 18 months, and I was "forced" to carry a G17. Nice firearm for sure, and I was actually disappointed that the G43 didn't feel right to me. I have always loved Glocks and I never failed to shoot them better than most guys. But the Shield just beat it out this time in the "feel" department. They both shot well though.

I wish my Colt 1911 38 Super wasn't so dang big & heavy. I'd take it into a self defense situation in a heartbeat.

I really like my G43....it's very accurate and a comfortable shooter. There are more compact 9's out there but to me the G43 really nails the balance of something you can shoot well but still carry.

If the G43 Talo edition had been available when I bought my G43 I probably would have gone that route, it'll save you a few bucks if you plan to add night sights.

I ended up installing Ameriglo Classics and Traction Grips on my G43 and couldn't be more happy with it.

I have some extra cash right now myself, but I am having a hard time narrowing it down as well, another AR, maybe a optic, handgun, can be nerve racking.

Go with the Glock 43! Just picked one up for my girlfriend and after shooting it.....I want one! Great piece and perfect for CC.

I traded for a Shield 40 cal, shot it a few times and like a fool traded it off. I'll have another. Did the same thing with a Glock 20, 10mm. Still looking for another one.

I have owned both. The S&W Shield is simply the highest value handgun I have ever owned. It is as accurate as handguns 3x its price and has functioned flawlessly. My daily carry is a Shield in 40 S&W. Good luck and happy shopping.
