A friend of mine does reloading for his and used a nosler ballistic tip(green tip) in a 180 grain. Where he hunts he has shots out to 400 yards. Mine are most often under 200. I hunt mostly deer but if i ever get drawn, a maine moose. What bullet would you suggest for best terminal performance. I am not going to be doing any paper punching with it as ammo costs for this one are right up there. Practice enough to be able to hunt with it confidently and thats about it.

Hey Andy - If it was me I would use at least a 180gr bullet and if you are using it for moose even a 200 gr. I have a Rem 700 ss in 300 wby and mine likes the 180gr barnes-x with IMR 4831. this is my elk round in this caliber. Have you seen the factory weatherby loads now they have now in 180 gr norma spitzer - they sell them at Sport Whse for $32.99. That's about the same price as new empty norma brass. All other factory wby ammo starts in the 50' to $75 a box. I was going to pick up a box to try if nothing else just for the brass. these are not the same as the factory 180gr hornady spire point ammo which is around 57.99. Dan

With the speeds the 300 Wthby is capable of, I'd use a stoutly constructed bullet. My go-to big game bullet has been the Barnes, since 1992.

The Barnes 150-168gr are all you should need, even for moose, if they shoot well.

My buddies 300 Wthby really likes the 180gr Barnes TSX. About 3 weeks ago, his son shot a spike bull elk at about 350yds with it. One shot and the bull drops, and, like usual, he did not recover the bullet. Later the same day, my buddy gets a shot at a cow elk at 390yds. She was facing away, and he hits her in the left rear ham. The bullet proceeds through the elk, hits and breaks, the right front shoulder, then exits the animal. She of course, drops on the spot.

Barnes are excellent big game bullets.

For close range (under 250 yds) on big game I've had good luck with 220 round nosed bullets.

For long distance I like the Barnes 180 TSX, as mentioned above it does an excellent job and is accurate.
