Good Air Rifle? Opinions?

Not to bash Gamo but DONT shoot those PBA pellets in the gun
They are too light for it and WILL burn up the seal and break the spring. They will cause the piston to slam into the chamber which will wreck the seal and also the shock from such a light pellet will end up breaking the spring.

Diablo shaped pellets are designed to be shot below sonic levels Bets accuracy is achieved below 950 generally.
Shoot a 7-9 grain pellet in that guns for optimum power and accuracy
And I have had a few of the gamos that claim 1250 FPS Run it over a chrony and even with those PBA it will be around 8-950 tops generally.
But basically they sell them as a gimmick pellet to make their speeds sound good
Order up some JSB Exacts for that gun and I bet your accuracy will get MUCH tighter.
 
im another fan of the Marauder. whisper quiet and dead nuts accurate. get the .25 you'll appreciate the extra knock down power. couple good videos on youtube on hunting with the Marauder
 
A good springer in that price range is the Beeman R9 or Diana 34,45. If you decide to go the PCP route the Marauder, Talon or Sumatra are hard to beat.

I have a .25 Marauder and it's a little thumper for sure!
 
I really like the little Benjamin Discovery that I've got...it's the most accurate air rifle I've owned so far. Since I bought it my RWS 34 has gotten pretty lonely.

As long as you don't do extended hunting in freezing weather, I would suggest the RWS 850. The one I have is very accurate, and about 9 ft/lbs in .177. You can buy LDCs for them, and CO2 at Walmart. MIne has taken a few birds, but I would step up to .22 if you want to go to rabbits and squirrels.

Actually if you really want to get serious about what your individual rifle likes you need to try as many different pellets as possible, I ended up with over 25.

Each rifle will shoot a certain weight better, either to the light or heavy end.

The R9 I got trashed a Bushnell scope, reduced it to something that changed the shots from shot to shot. Few scopes will stand up to springer airgun use well, Bushnell Elite 4200's will, and a cheaper sleeper is the $220 Swift Premier Airgun scope, I got the 6-20x.

Colibri field pellets are excellent in my rifle.
 
Im new at air guns. Have a few questions.
How much does your marauder weight?
I had to send back the one I bought for my boy, due to it being too big, heavy.

Who would modify and how much would it be to lose the wood stock. I think it was quiet enough, so I would not need can.

Would stock performance settings be enough for body kills on rabbits? Or are head shots needed?

I read and lost a link about taking a pistol and upgrading the power for keeping it light. any ideas would help. thanks

If you looking for a light weight pcp take a look at the marauder pistol. Crosman just came out with the backpacker model. Take a look at the Yellow fourm http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/ .
 
Chase, I recently purchased my first "real" hunting airgun. I have an RWS model 34 in .22 caliber. I paid around $200 for it. It is very quiet, has a great trigger, and seems to dispatch groundhogs and squirrels with ease. Right out of the box with open sights I was pretty amazed at the accuracy out to about 40-50 yards. I've just put a scope on it and am dialing it in. I expect even bigger things out of it scoped. The model 34 is not "the best" but it may be more than enough for a budget air rifle. Made in Germany , very high quality, and fits your budget. Hope this helps, good luck.
 
Some rifles like regular old Crossman hp pellets too....500 for under $10 and that's great by me

For myself, I have Sumatra 2500 in .22 and Sam Yang Bigbore 44 Light Hunter, next gun will most likely be a .357 haven't decided which gun yet, and I also will be getting a .25 caliber Marauder for sure.
 
He's talking about .22 ammo it uses a primer only no powder,
they are way more slient that any pellet rifle and way more
accurate i see no reason you couldnt shoot within a 1/4" at
25 yards...... i use these all the time, the super colibri
are reasonable about $3.50 for 50 and most people already
have a .22 rifle.....and believe me all you hear is the
hammer click and the bullet hit the target. near zero sound..
I have a gamo bone collector it's ok? but way too loud IMO.
 
marauder in 25 is a great starter pcp. on almost all the air gun forums posters who list their collection of air guns and own hi end ones ($1000 n up) also list the marauder as one they own. I've taken crows, rabbits, coons, out past 50 yds no problem.

I have a Beeman RS2 Dual-Caliber Air Rifle and love it. Its taken many rabbits and squirrels with cheep flat nose dasiy pellets. It has a .22 and .177 barrel, but always used the .22 cal barrel. Around 800 fps I think the claim is.

For $150ish you cant go wrong

under $500 best "bang" for the buck is a benjamin marauder hands down. 1: shrouded for quiet
2: multishot
3: fully adjustable match grade trigger
4: fully adjustable for power and shot count as well
5: dead nuts accurate with the right pellets

over $500, well i'd look into an fx, or air arms or evanix or maybe a sumatra. personally i like the fx revolution. very similar platform to the ar15.
