I was sitting at my desk this morning, going over some invoices, I work at home , when the dogs started barking. Walked outside to see what they were throwing such a fit about. My office door is maybe 50 yards from the tree line, which is only 300 yards from the city limits, didn't see anything at first, looked over to my right and theres a coyote standing about 100 yards in a field across the driveway!! Ran back to my office a nd grabbed my .243. Came back out just in time to see him walk across the drive and into the thicket. At that point I went back and grabbed my call. Snuck down behind my pond dam and started calling,,,nothing. I knew he was still there because there is no other way out besides the way he came in.
I decided to walk down the driveway and see if I could see anything. Theres a small dry creek bed runnng through the trees where he went, figured he was hiding in there, I was right. I stood there for a few minutes and heard a cracking sound, then another, then it hit me,,he was eating something. Finally found a spot where I could see down the creek to where I thought the sound was coming from, about 5 minutes later he comes around a corner about 75 yards down. My Rem. 700 .243 let out a crack and he did a bang flip flop!!
100 gr Hornady SPBT went right behind his shoulder and exited at his,,well lets just say that he USED to have boy parts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
When I got down to him I found that he was eating a turkey. He had no idea I was anywhere around.
I know it was not as good as calling him in, but my neighbor has been having a lot of new calves, and that one less predator he has to worry about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
