Good flashlight for under $50?

I keep one of the little AA cree flashlights in my truck. For the money (around $5 including shipping on ebay) you can't beat them. I just ordered 6 more for stocking stuffers.

Go to ebay and do a search for Cree flashlights. You will be amazed at the selection and the reasonable prices. I have one that is 1300 lumens and came with 2- 18650 rechargeable batteries and a charger for around $20. That little light is insanely bright and is small enough to fit in small pack pocket. Just looking at the reflection of the light off of a wood floor in a dark room will hurt your eyes.
I picked up a 1300 lumen cree headlamp with a zoomable lens for $14 shipped. I liked it so well I bought one for my brother for part of his Christmas present.

Something to think about, I just bought a "Nebo" compact flashlight from a store in town called Batteries Plus. The thing that sold me on the light is the fact that it takes one AA battery. My thinking was that when I'm backpacking, hunting, hiking etc. I'm already packing AA's for my GPS so I don't need to pack AA & AAA batteries. The light is small and lightweight, has a clip to clip it on the brim of your hat if you want to. One thing about headlamps that I have found is that you always need to be looking at the ground to see the trip hazards, where if you have a light in your hand you can hold it down in a natural hand position and get shadows from the hazards. I have some friends that do ultra marathons (100 milers) and they use head lamps that they attach to their waist for this purpose. That being said the hands free is a nice option though. And you know you can never have too many, cause when you need one its never where you are.

If you want to put out a little effort....Pick up one of the small utility pocket lights that they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot, get on Google and search "Hacking Small Flashlight" and follow the instructions...

I ran across the article by accident and worked up two of them...with some parts purchased at Radio Shack, I wound up with one that keeps up with my Surefire and my Pelican and only have about $20 invested...The photo below is not too good, but it's mounted on my AR carbine in a mount that I made from two pieces of plexiglas and an old scope ring...
