Good powder for 243 nosler 80 grainers....?

IMR 4350 max is 45gr

IMR 4064 max is 40gr

AA3100 max is 47gr

I have found all 3 work best at or near max loads......

I've been running imr 4831 with 70gr and 75gr pills. Don't know about 80gr. Imr 4064 is one good powder for the 243. Both of these powders do not meter very well. But they are great powders.

Over the years I've used a lot of IMR4064 but I switched to IMR4007SSC a couple years ago and really like it. According to the burn chart it's a little slower than 4064 and although I don't shoot many 80 grain bullets the 4007 has been extremely accurate with 70 and 75 grain bullets. No reason why it shouldn't work with 80's too. I'm using 46.0 grain and a 70 Speer TNT right now.

I'd go with H4350 or H4831sc. Good velocity and probly accuracy with one or the other, and its not near as temp sensitive as the other powders.

Either of those two or maybe varget are the ones I will be trying.

I load for 4 different 243's, my Browning, a Rem 700, Tikka and a Hart custom. My Browning loves Varget, but the other rifles don't. They like H4831 and IMR4350. I haven't tried 4064, but with all the positive comments about it I will.

I haven't loaded 80 gr's as I use varget or 4320 ussually for lighter bullets, but I have loaded 85 nos pt and 100 gr nos pt and seirra 100 gr GK's with Hy-brid 100. Very consistent powder good velocitys and have had excellent accuracy on 3 .243's a vangard, a remmy and a savage. Loads from rifle to rifle only very .7 gr.s. Win brass and wlr primers.

I have always used 80 Grain in my 243 & Have had excellent results with IMR 4350 so I've never tried any other powder,
like they say if it aint broke dont fix it.

I am sure that there are many good loads for a 80g Nosler with many bullets.

I copied a friend on the IMR 4064, I shot it for years with the 80g Sierra single shot pistol bullet and currently on the 80g Sierra Blitz.

The load on my two Rem 700's is 39.5-41.5g of IMR 4064, Win or Rem brass with a Fed 210 primer(very important), with a velocity of 3450 fps. Accuracy with this load is around an inch at 200 yds or a little smaller depending on the wind. We shot this load for 20+ years on yotes...jeez does this bullet hammer a yote.

I also worked up a load for Hybrid 100that shot very well...lost that little piece of paper.

I want to try 4350 and R#17 next, just for grins. We did work up a load about 6 years ago that is straight out of the nosler manual on the 70g Nosler ballistic tip with 47g of 4350 with a Win primer(very important) that is 3600 fps out of my Rem that simply shot a single ragged hole.

I don't know how well the 80g NOsler kills...time will tell. I do know that with the 80g Sierra(single shot and Blitz)I have killed many coyotes shot in the back of the stomach(rib cage on running, broadside shots)from not leading them enough that killed them grave yard dead right there.

I worked up a load in the late 70's with H4831 with the 80's and it was only doing 3150...too slow for those super coyotes that were around back then.

I put a .243 Hart 12 twist barrel on a Remington that was 26" long and got an honest 3500 fps out of the 80g Sierra with the IMR 4064 load above, groups in the 3/8" area. I used a Bonanza/Forester neck sizer to bump the shoulder back if/when the bolt got a little tight.

If your gun will shoot the nosler 80g, I am sure that IMR 4064, IMR or H 4350, Hybrid 100, and R#17 will get stellar job with that bullet at very fast velocities.

I used the 87 gr vmax out Of mine for coyotes and it was nasty medicine. I used varget about 42 gr if i remember right. I think varget is a great powder for all that 308 family line of cases. Good groops and consistent. I always used cci. 250 primers also. Seemed like they would shoot better than the 200 primers
