my dad needs a new set of scales for reloading and i wanna get him a good scale (probably digital unless advised otherwise)but i dont wanna break the bank with something thats 200-300 dollars. Who makes a good set?

So do most of you use digital or beam scales? i was thinking the digital would be an upgrade to what he has? i like the look of the pact. also looked at RCBS scales

The RCBS 505 and a Redding drop measure work fine for me too.

I've got a nice digital scale. It stays in the box on the shelf so it should last a long time.

I use both! Chargemaster 1500 and the 10-10 but you will need a powder drop if you dont go with something like a chargemaster.

I use both in setting my powder throws then spot checking

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one and RCBS has a $50 rebate if you spend $300 or more.

Jwalle1;
You can get a really nice digital scale that MTM just started offering for $40.00 (does NOT automatically dispense powder); these work great as a back-up to a good beam scale and by themselves depending on your father's preferences.

Also handy for weighing bullets, cases, jewelry, etc.

Some thing to consider before buy a electronic scale is over head lighting. If the lighting is florcent make sure it has the electronic balast or you will have troubles with the digital scales holding zero and doing other weird stuff.
Even when useing a digital scale a powder drop is nice. I use a RCBS model along with the RCBS 750 range master scale and the OUHN balance bean scale to double check the digital.

I use a Pact (about a yr old) and use IMR 4150 powder and wouldn't try any other scale. Its very, very accurate and I feel very comfortable with its accuracy.

Alleyopper makes an excellent point about the overhead lighting ballast interference. I use strictly the RCBS 750 model (in fact have two of them) and have no problems whatsoever, unlike some comments I've read on this blog. The key I've found is to use a power surge protector (with no other items plugged into the power surge protector), making sure the overhead lighting is a distance (mine overheads have ballasts and are 4' above my reloading table) above the scale (no desk lamps immediately above the loading table) and no direct wind (such as a fan of any sort) that affects the air flow near the scale. Extreme temperatures also affect thes scales, all the above because these scales are that sensitive. But boy are they accurate.
