In the market for a good trail cam. I dont need the "FX5" version, but one that will take good to OK pictures, and what options should I look for. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, PhilBilly

The cuddleback is the top of the line. If you just want a ok camera I have a moultrie 1.3 megapixel you can get them at wally world for about $100 plus a 6 volt battery and memory card.I use the recharable battery-saves some cash. I use a 1gb card it will take abunch of pics over 500.I have an extra battery and memory card so when go to check the camera I switch the batery and card, bring the card home and check the pics. The hard part about the camera is that doesn't have a good mounting system.I have over 500 pics of bobcats but no coyotes.Let me know if you want to see one I just pm me.

1eyedjack, thanks for the info. What is your opinion on a brand that is less than Cuddleback and more than Moultrie, if there is one! I should say, better quality than Moultrie. Does Moultrie have good features and what should I look for in a trail cam!? Megapixel, trigger speed, what ever that is, etc...

PM sent. Thanks PhilBilly.

If you want pictures of game get a cuddeback. They are the only ones Ive seen that trigger fast enough to catch the animal in the photo almost every time. My game cams are,

1. gamevu digital, 3yrs old, doesnt work anymore, battery life sucks, a lot of photos of nothing because of slow trigger speed. NOT RECOMENDED

2. cuddeback 1.3, 2yrs old, works great battery life is incredible 3-6months, good photos, RECOMENDED

3. cuddeback no flash 1yr old, NOT RECOMENDED battery life with night video on is only days. Quality of night pics/vids sucks if animal is moving. LED lights up at night when activated to spook game for you. Doesnt come with cable lock like the original design.

If I were to buy another cam it would be an older cuddeback on clearance or a new flash model. Save up for it if you have to, its worth it.

Everytime i think i have found the trailcam i want to buy i hear theres someting wrong with that model or theres a better one, i've been wanting one for over a year and still dont know which one is the best overall or best for the money spent.

Build your own camera and you can have it as fancy as you want. I have built several both 35mm and digital and have had no problems with them.

Hagshouse.com is a good place to start, that is where I got the info to build all of mine.

Can you use a solar panel with any of the cuddebacks or the build it yourself models? I have the Moultrie packaged for Cabelas. I like the quality of pics, but know the trigger speed isn't what I want. I also like the fact that I can hook a solar panel to mine. I've had it in use since July and haven't had to replace the 6 volt batterie yet. That's well over 1000 pictures. Also like the fact that it uses a SD card, the same as my kodak. I can take the card out, view my pics in the field and download them to the kodak's memory if I want. This way I don't have to have an extra card to swap.

I just recently purchased a Moultrie 3.1 mp Game Spy 200 off of ebay for 150 bucks. Its a great affordable camera with lots of features. Cabelas has the same camera but 4.1 mp for 149.00 - Moultrie made it special for cabelas.

I also have the Moultrei 4.1. My first one went back because the shutter speed was not in sync with the flash. NO hassel, they sent me a new one. The pictures during the day were great but at night everything needed to be enhanced. My second one is working fine. One of by buddies has 3 Moultreis and I have seen his coyote and bobcat pictures, "top shelf". Everyone complained about the straps to hold it to the tree but they can be replaced with better bunji straps. I was told that the solar panel did not work well during the winter because of the angle of the sun. So who wants to take all of their pictuers in the summer??? DAAAAAAAA! Battery life is good in mine but I have the rechargable kind. It ate my non-rechargables like candy.

get a wildview 3.0. Im not saying cuddebacks arent good but your just paying for the name. Why would you spend $400 on a cuddeback when you could spend $100 on a wildview that is just as good. It takes videos, burst mode, etc.
This is one of many good pictures with my wildview
