Hello everyone,
I am looking for a set of quiet waterproof bibs or pants for calling. I don’t need heavyweights, mid weight or lighter would work. I can layer. Problem is I am big guy, 6’3” 310lbs, 42-44 waist and 56 chest. I found some first lite pants but 200 is hard to swallow. I’ve got cabelas wool and Berber for deer but it’s too hot for calling. What do you guys use? It doesn’t even have to be camo not caught up in the hype of it.

Thanks
Jon

Most of my hunting clothes are Sitka, First Lite or Filson. Buy once, cry once kinda mindset. Waterproof? Can't help you with that.

My hunting partner is a Sitka fanatic. He has paid for someone’s vacation I’m sure. I like first lite foundry pants. They have a waterproof butt and knees. I don’t mind spending the 200 but I am at the upper limit of their sizes and would like to be able to layer comfortably. The only Sitka I have is the base layers. I have some king of the mountain wool but it’s way to hot for calling. What do you think of first lite? I also like the Dakota pants by Sitka but the are not waterproof but very nice.

Thanks
Jon

I really like my Kings camo, I have the snow camo, Artic fleece I believe. Waterproof, very warm, I wear them under 20 degrees. They may have a lighter weight, cool weather item. Guides storm fleece, I walk/snowshoe, light base layer when near zero, just the storm fleece. Above 20 degrees waterproof upland pants will work.

I like my Walmart camo or Cabela's on sale.

Water proof pants are a nightmare too hot when walking cold when sitting. I have a pair of upland bird chaps, they are soft with Cabela's Dry Plus lining of n frosty mornings I wear them until the sun burns off the frost, same with wet mornings, they repel the moisture but ares open at the top and breathe. I wear them over my fleece lined pants on the MC in the winter they keep the cold wind at bay just like leather ones but are light and breathable to walk in.

I don't worry too much about camo on my legs, either tan or grey pants as my legs are pretty much bellow a coyotes.line of sight or look like a patch lot sand, dirt or a rock.

Well Cabelas doesn't make the lined ones any longer, good thing I bought two sets. The only outfit I can find still making the soft lined chaps is Orvis and they are twice what I paid, I guess that was 2006 dollars though.

I'll try and post a link.

Link to Orvis on Amazon(with prime you can send them back free)

I have the Sitka Dakota pants and hoodie. I run kinda hot and only use them when it is pretty cold. For me that is a dark cloudy, windy day with temps lower than 22*-24*-ish. I won't wear any layers on the bottom with the Dakota pants. Most folks I hunt with accuse me of not having any blood in my veins to freeze. I dunno, it takes a lot to make me feel cold.

You asked about First Lite, I like the clothes. In fact, I just bought the Solitude Bibs and Jacket for all day late season sits in the treestand bow hunting winter whitetails.

You have to try them to understand. They're waterproof and windproof and $40

They look like paper and can be crackly, I put them in the drier on just air for an hour with a pair of sneakers. Like tumbling brass, after that there soft and mostly quiet.

What do you have to lose? I can get two to three years out of them with a little cair going over barbed wire fences.

Try not to rip the inner fabric with your boot, They go over your hunting close.

I had a set of Frog Toggs that I kept in my boat in case a storm blew up unexpectedly. That was years ago but they weren't very durable. Are they improved in that regard?

I love wool. The only complaints I have with wool is that it is heavy, and takes forever to dry when wet. But wool is good stuff, quiet, wears like iron, warm, warm when wet.

I also like wool it for really cold temps, where the snow stays dry and you squeak when you walk.

Check out Big Bill Wool if anyone is looking for high quality wool pants for $100, i've got a few pairs. They're for loggers but alot of hunters took on to them, they have big and tall I believe.

Silent predator also makes nice stuff but it's for really cold temps and it's expensive.

When it gets real cold I wear natural gear bibs and jacket, super warm, quiet and relatively inexpensive.

Walmart is putting hunting clothes on clearance now. I bought a pair of waterproof/windproof pants the other day for $30. Usually cost $44.
I think they are suppose to be the scent blocker pants but I don't pay attention to that. We all know that does'nt really work.

They have the ones that are insolated for $50 but if it gets that cold I just wear coveralls.
