We have had an invasion of gophers again with winter approaching they can kill our trees/plants and wreak havoc on the irrigation system. My wife has had trouble trapping them and once they bury the trap it is tougher to trick them. So as a surefire eradication I had her open the holes up and put the water hose in each one for 10-15 minutes. The water shows up in many unexpected places. One gopher popped out soaking wet gasping about 20 feet away. The rest are toast and the open holes are now inactive.
