it seems like about once every five days or so this yote barks for about an hour.. he lets out a 3-4 second howl than barks non stop with no other coyotes. it might be a challenge bark but i have never heard one last this long... im just wondering exactly what this coyote is telling me,other yotes or what is he doing?

conan, are you hearing this coyote from a calling stand or near your house ?? i think understanding what they are saying is our toughest job as hunters !! i have heard something similar if i were to guess i thinkhe is nervous about something ??
no im not on a stand, im at our barn that is right behind our house... this has been going on now for about two months... it is un responsive to any of my howls or challenge barks. also, all the other coyotes are silent when he lets it lose but, if i start howling they pick up all around my house... its a weird deal ive sat and listened to yotes here at the house and i have never heard anything quite like this...

all i can do say what happened to me once. we set up a stand one morning last april i did two or three lonesome howls waited a few minutes & my hunting buddy i.o.n. doyle started the rabbit distress, immediately a coyote
probably started barking & howling about 1/3 a mile away would be my guess,the barks howls & yips were fast paced & non stop it sounded like a hyena.... well after deciding the distress sounds would'nt bring it in.then i decided what the heck i used my howler & barked yipped howled,did everthing the best i could to mimick everything that coyote was doing. finally it crested the ridge to come into view yapping the whole way !!
well of course it stopped in plain view at 400-500 yards im sure it saw us. anyway i took a low percentage shot only because i became aggitated with the damn thing !! missed it naturaly ?? that was the craziest hunting experiance i have had so far !
that darn coyote would not shut up !!
there were no other coyotes heard this whole time..took about 1/2 hour...

I too have had this happen. Dang near every night this past fall, until I shot him.
He could here me doing chores, or if I was in the shop pounding around he would bark. He would bark at the dogs. They would run him off. I think he was trying to claim our horse pasture as his turf. The rest of the story I posted in Oct. Since then, alls been quiet around the ranch house.
