Got my carry conceal permit

My wife, daughter and I just got our permit to conceal carry. My daughter is on her own now and I wanted her to get the permit. My wife thought it would be a kick to get hers too so we all went to the handgun safty class together last december, one night a week and got the certificate. Then things got tight money wise. We finally got to send in the applications in june. 30 days later and we got the approval in the mail. then we had to take the approval forms to the department of moter vehicles to get our pics taken and had to wait another 3 weeks to get the real thing. It was a long process but rewarding.

I gave my daughter my 357 for now but it's to big to conceal. I'll get her something small in .380 cal. and take back the revolver. I really don't need to carry. I just wanted my daughter to get hers but I thought it would be great to be able to throw my shotgun in the truck and not have to unload it when driving from stand to stand. Unfortunatly, I've learned, thats not permitted because of the game laws in this state. Loaded handgun is "Mother approved" but not a long gun (shotgun or rifle) Oh well, it will come in handy some day. I'm still going to look in to it because the permit say's carry concealed "firearms". Do any of you know about this matter? I will be interested to hear how it works in your state. maybe a little insight in to how it works in my state. Thanks guy's

I would like to suggest a Walther PPK in 380 for your daughter(and wife).It fits a small hand very well and can be concealed in a pocket or purse easily.If loaded with hollow points,it will do the job.

I'll second the suggestion for the Walther. My wife is flat scary with her little PPK/S in .380. I know it's not much bullet (90 grainer), but I have no doubt she can put all seven of them in the right place if push came to shove. Very nice little pistols, and worth your consideration.

Oh yeah, in New Mexico (where we just got CC a few months ago), you are tested and approved for an action type (semi-auto) and caliber (I don't think it says cartridge) of handgun. So it's pretty specific and doesn't include long guns. However, you can have a shotgun or rifle laying in the seat of your truck and you're perfectly legal here anyway. In fact, I believe that you can still carry a handgun open (and unchambered) without a permit. Don't quote me on that as I'm only going off what was said in the paper, and we all know how reliable the press is...

Tell your wife and daughter welcome to the ever increasing club of Americans. It only chaps my but that we have to pay a fee (tax) to exercise our rights. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Here in Arkansas it is much like New Mexico. If you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver. If you qualify with an auto, you get an unrestricted license. My instructor made you shoot both so he felt comfortable that you could use both. Long guns loaded in the automobile will get you in deep with the game officers here.

I got my permit more for when I am travelling to my hunting/fishing spots. I've often wondered about leaving before daylight if I had a flat tire and someone stopped would they be stopping to help me or help themselves to my stuff. I also like to wade fish small streams in the national forests which are usually somewhat remote and you never know what type character you are going to meet there.
 
You might get your daughter a Kel-Tec P38AT in .380. It only weighs 14 oz. empty and has a 7 round clip. My Wife has small hands and it fits in her hand very easily. It can be concealed just as well. Enjoy.

As far as I know AZ doesn't restrict the type of handgun I can carry. I qualified w/ a 9mm auto when I got the permit and when I renewed it. One fellow qualified w/ a Ruger MK2 target pistol. I can't imagine him being limited to that.

I felt like a got chingered when I discovered the AZ permit doesn't have a picture. It's pretty cheap, similar to a laminated library card.

Congrats on the CCW. The more the merrier.
 
Here in CA it is left to the local law enforecement agency to determine if they feel you have a legitimate need to carry and are given the final say in authorizing the permit.
 
Congrats on getting your permits, however, being a hunter safety instuctor, I would not recommend carrying loaded long guns in your vehicle. Some people won't secure them as good as they would a handgun. I not saying that you wouldn't but as they say, accidents do happen. It's just not a good practice to get into.
 
In Washington state long guns are explictly excluded from "carry permit". No way/no how/no time can ya have a rifle or shot gun loaded in a rig. Not even parked. guys have been cited for laying a loaded rifle on the seat in order to reach for thier license.
I am not trying to start a fight but I work for a city fire department our Police tried out the Walther for concealed carry, every one of them failed within the first year. They went to mini glocks. I don't know all the whys wherefor etc. but it happened.
I carry a Kimber 45 Pro-carry II my lovely wife a Ruger 101 357/ loaded with 38 special ++p S&W Lead Hollow points.

Radmohunter; The kel-tec p38at, I'll have to look into. Dang it! I left that magizine around here somewhere. All the Kel-Tec stuff is priced good.

Bofire I don't like the sound of that. they all failed within the first year? I thing those glocks are to pricy. The Kimber too but I love them with the hammer drop switch you push down and not up.

Daiseycutter; NH. is the same way. It looks like a cheap imitation, They just pull it out of a cerial box and send it off. My dad has his ccl in MA., NH. and ME.. He was telling me that MA. just went up to $100.00 to renew :eek: .
Thanks to all who commented on your state laws. I don't like the fact that the game laws here effect my priveledge to carry concealed "Firearms". I'de thing that after being checked on and double checked, I would have reached a level of trust but not with the Dept. of inland fisheries and wildlife?
 
Congrats on the permit woodcock!! I took the course this past weekend, and just sent in the app myself. Strange how you have to send in the app then get approved then go down for photos.

We had to take pics, fingerprints, get 3 affidavits notarized, fill out the app, then send it in one package and we just wait on the permit. Sounds like they want you to work a little harder.

Looks like they grabed my head , rolled my face in ink and then rolled flat on the paper /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif . My wife and daughter are complaning about the pics. They say they look 100 lbs. heftyer. Is ther such thing as a 12 ga. revolver?
Radmohunter: I found the buyers guide. I see the P-3AT only weights 7.2 oz.. Is the gun rugged enuogh. Whats it made like. do you like it?
 
Concealed carry is different from state to state so check those laws before traveling over state lines. It might be good to apply for neighboring states CC permits if you travel a lot. Some now have agreements that a neighboring states cc permit is ok in theirs also.

My sggestion for the ladies is a ultralite snub nose .38. If a pistol is too complicated to use or too heavy women get tired of packing that extra weight in their already overweight purse. (I don't understand this)

Racking a slide on an autoloader takes time if you don't carry with one in the chamber ready to go but a wheel gun is always ready to shoot. The new lightweight frame pistols are just the ticket for the females in your life, it may cost a bit more but thay are worth it. Boldasabear; I can't travel over state lines with my ccl. N.H. would be fairly easy to get a non-resident ccl but Mass. I would'nt bother with. They have made it so hard to get a non-resident ccl it's not worth the bother. My permit is worth nothing down there. It's 1 year in jail manditory without a mass. license to carry.
I think the idea of a revolver is a good one. I'll have to give that some thought. Theres a gun show coming up here soon and I'll be there. I have the guns america wed site in my favorites and will check it out. thanks alot my friend.
 
Not only does Texas require finger prints when you first apply for your permit, they also require that you be re finger printed when you renew.

I just renewed last month. You have to take a refresher course, re-qualify ( I shot perfect this time) and send in the renewal packet. The renewal packet includes the affidavits and such signed by the instructor, the applicant, a new passport photo, and a new set of fingerprints.

In Texas, you cannot qualify with anything smaller than .380, and if you qualify with a revolver, that is all you can legally carry. If you qualify with a semi-auto, you can carry either revolver or semi.
 
Supposidly there is some county in Georgia that you only need to know the sheriff.

I also heard that the Florida program is so poor that they dont even let their students carry into the refresher courses or in gunshops. Almost everything is off limits.

Ill take the finger prints lol!!!
 
Yeppers I am going to renew mine in a few weeks, I was one the first people here in El Paso to get mine when it came out several years ago. Every four years, new picture, and fingerprints..
