Granny's Apple Butter

The cast iron skillet post got me to thinking about my Granny's cooking that I grew up on. She fried the very best chicken in the world in a cast iron skillet.

I was lucky enough to pay attention, and I've got a bunch of her recipes stored away. One of my favorites is the apple butter my wife and I made this evening.

Great tradition! I have lots of memories standing around a large copper kettle, taking our turns stirring the butter! I love it when apple butter day comes around ... it's never soon enough!

Nope, too thick for a straw, but a big spoon works.

I tried it out with a couple of pieces of my mother-in-law's sourdough bread, toasted and buttered up.
I think it'll be OK.

I'm gonna have to vist sometime after all the canning is done. You have a bunch of stuff that looks good. Minus the sweet pickles ..YUCK !!
