How many of you guys like GEC knives? Turns out one of the guys I work with is mixed up in this company somehow. Not sure the specifics but I'm going to find out tommorow. I knew he came from a family of knife makers but didn't know much about his/their work. Since finding out I've been browsing around looking at some of the knives and even though I'm not a big fan of that style of knife, some of the models really appeal to me and I'd like to add one or two to my box.

For those that have them, what's your overall opinion? Fit and finish, etc, never seen one in person.

Backsprings are way too strong for many people's liking. Some are very hard to open and snap shut with enough force that one would not want to get ones fingertip too close to the blade upon closing. My Tidioute is definitely capable of laying my finger open or taking my fingertip partially off should I not be careful......

Turns out he use to be partnered up with GEC. Part owner or something of the sort..he's bringing me a couple #25 barlows at work tommorow to let me look at. He also mentioned something about getting ready to buy queen out?

I would sure like to know if that is true. Queen ranks at the top of my list for production knives.

Queen has not been family owned since the late 60s. A company called Servtronics(something like that) bought them and Ontario Cutlery and has owned both ever since AFAIK.

Both companies are in Titusville, PA, and are probably related in some way, although not nesessarily legal ownership. Let's just say, "they've met".

If you notice some of the GEC knives say "Titusville Ironworks" or "Cyclops Steel" on them. These are the same companies Queen worked with/sourced back in the 1920s. Queen and Cyclops perfected the use of stainless steel in American cutlery. Queen was the pioneer, and by far the first, to do so....

We were on the subject of various knife manufacturers this morning and I brought up northwoods (who is apparently owned by queen?) that's how we got on the queen subject, then he went on to tell me a bunch of stuff I didn't understand and it ended with something to the effect of "we are working on buying queen right now"

He is no longer with GEC, the way I understand it..him and his partner split ways a little while back...

I'll get the full story tommorow when I go in...

I did not know that. I will have to pay more attention next time I am home. My parents noise is 12 miles from Titisville.
