GREY FOX vs COYOTE

Hey guys, We have a lot of coyotes here in MN and we have been out calling with rabbitt distress calls and coyote barking calls and we can't even see a coyote this year. Tons of tracks but nothing responding. I want to call something in REALLY bad and we used to get grey fox all the time with the rabbitt distress call before the coyotes got thick. So are any of you having any luck calling in grey fox in states where the coyote population is high? If so, what are you using to call them in? I want to know if I switch to the grey fox distress call if I will have any luck calling in greys or do you guys think that there aren't any greys around due to the coyotes?

G-Hunting were abouts you located in Mn I am south in the state, (Lakecity) I have been using a dstress rabbit and then switching to a fox and rabbit fight, and it works very well. Also if you are hunting around farms take advantage of that. What I mean is if the have cats on the farm get yourself a distressed house cat tape or if any sheep around get a coyote killing a lamb tape, they both work wonders..

It seems to me that as the coyote population around here gets bigger, the fox population gets signifigantly smaller. 10 years ago I would go turkey hunting with my dad, and we would call in a fox or two every spring. I have only seen 2 foxes in the last 4 years (while turkey hunting), and have seen an average of 5 coyotes every turkey season. I have only been predator hunting for 2 years, so I dont know what the numbers looked like prior to that as far as the ratios go. I usually call in about 1 fox to every 10 coyotes nowadays. I try to call in foxes using the grey or red fox pup distress tapes, and that is the only luck I have had with foxes. (besides turkey calls in my youth)

MN Hunter, I live about 25 miles southwest of you. The coyote population here as you know is huge but the hunting has really sucked the last couple of years. We only called in 1 coyote all last year and this year we haven't even seen one. We've seen nothing but tracks. I just talked to a friend of mine 2 days ago and he hunted all weekend long and saw tons of tracks but no critters. My dad wants to buy one of theose new 204 caliber varmint rifles but the hunting better get a lot better before that happens. I'm at my witts end here, we can't see anything while calling and we can't see anything while driving and glassing.

I take it you are around the rochester area that is not to far. If you ever want to come down to my neck of the woods to call or run the coyotes with hounds give me a call 651-345-4290 , Donald

Will red fox pup work just as well on grays or is it just for reds? I've never had any luck with the gray fox pup on the foxpro but did call a red last week with the red fox pup on the foxpro.THANKS
