I'v decided to bite the bullet and buy a band saw. Can anyone give me any input on this model? Likes or dislikes. Also, should I get a differnt blade for it? It comes with a 3/8". Doent know how many TPI. Is the riser blocks something I should be looking at also? Please help my head is spinning.

Thanks
Dan.

From a repair stand point, I don't care for Grizzly products. They seem to obsolete products often making it difficult to get replacement parts years down the road.
I use to like the Delta products. But since they have been bought out by Dewalt (aka black and decker) I don't much care for them either for the same reason.

From a working stand point, I cant comment as I only repair equipment , not use it.

Dan, alot of callmakers have that very saw and love it. It is more than adequate for callmaking. The first thing you need to do with any new saw is change the blade. Very few come with a blade that is worth a crap. I would look at a 3-4tpi blade. As far as the riser block, unless you are goiong to be resawing or cutting down really large pieces, you don't need it. It is something you can always add later if you need it. I looked really hard at that saw when I upgraded. Grizzly has always been bad about making their equipment obsolete after a couple of years, but this saw has been around awhile and seems like it is here to stay. Don't overlook Delta, Jet, Powermatic and a few others. I ended up with a Powermatic for the quality and durability.

Powermatic and Jet are both owned by WMH Tool group and seem to be a much better product . (Again, this is from a repairmans point of view)

I have the G0513 17" Bandsaw. I love mine. I use a 1" Lenox Carbide Tipped 2/3 tpi vp Tooth. I resaw with it all the time. Barely needs surfacing after that. I also use it to rip stock down as well. Incredibly accurate with the carbide. I would recommend it. I have had mine for 4 years and not one single problem. Knock on wood! Recommend the carbide tipped as well. Will last 10x's longer then the others. I don't care who you go with. The price seems steep, but once you use one you'll never use any other blades again.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm kinda leaning towards the Jet now. Maybe. I think. Crud, I still doent know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I'm worse than women buying shoes.

Dan, I have several Jet machines. I can say they have have been worth every penny. I've been turning on a Jet 1236 lathe for almost 12 years with zero problems. I've replaced the belt once and that is it. I don't think you can go wrong with a Jet. The reason I went with the Powermatic saw is the horse power difference and standard equipment that are upgrades on all the other saws in this category. For the work I do, the upgrades were a neccessity. If you are not needing the upgrades, go with the Jet. Just figure out which saw fits your needs the best and don't look back.
