Ground squirrel rimfire

buy the ammo for the 17 in bulk, thatll save you some dough, I got 1000 rounds on here for a pretty good price.

I like knowing I can shoot and kill anything up to the size of a yote within 75 yards, a .22 well, keep it smaller than a coon, and even coons sometimes take a few shots.

Naaa,,, but then they didn't whine about people whining back then either...
Of couse they didn't have the internet back then either so insulting people or calling them names had to be done face to face..
Personally I don't give a rip since I never did jump on the HMR bandwagon,, but at the same time,, I don't see where someone not thinking that they're getting their money's worth with a certain product constitutes "Whining"????

as soon as more places start making the 17hmr ammo, the prices will go down, right now CCI makes every round, they are relabeled, and different colored tips are put on for the different brands.

I never really understood why .22 Mag. ammo cost more than .22 LR to produce (okay, maybe 20% more would be reasonable). I always wanted one, but when I can reload .223 for the same price (before the price of primers went through the roof), it never made sense.

I guess that's "whining" too.

I would go with the .17HMR since you already have a .22LR. I have hunted ground squirrel with .22LR, .22WMR and .17HMR. I like the reach that the .17 gives me in the field. If it gets too windy I'll use my .22WMR with the new 30 grain ballistic tip. That lets me shoot out to 100 yards. If I'm in an area where the ground squirrel are plentiful and my shots are going to be 75 yards, or less I'll use a .22LR. I will even take my .22 cal RWS 350 Magnum brake barrel airgun when hunting around populated areas. Different tools for different situations. The .17HMR is a hard hitting zinger that has extended my shooting window when hunting small varmint. I use a CZ 452 Varmint with a Timney trigger and a 4.5x14x40 AO scope.

I would stick to the 22lr. Ammo is more readily available. I use my 10/22 on the ground squirrels, shot thousands of them over the years. Another plus for using the 22lr is that some ranchers do not like higher velocity calibers. I have one ranch I shoot on that only reason I got permission was that I use the 22lr.
