Acquired this call yesterday, anyone recognize it or have some good guesses? 😁

The howlers on the left and appears to have been made from one side of this matching set of horns.

It was really a no brainer purchase. 😉

The name I'm thinking of is eluding me at this moment but that's an awesome find! Iv been wanting to try making a call like this as those power howlers have some otherworldly great sound that I can only imagine get better in a steer horn
 
Rich Higgins was the first to use the power howler with a horn like that, that I ever knew of. I'm not sure, but don't think that's one of his though. He liked to include some metal inlay.

I did have ONE Rich Higgins howler that I had received from Richard Grantham, but unfortunately I sold it when I thought I was moving on from the hobby. :sneaky:

Yes, Brent Saxton (KeeKeeYelp, Kee's Custom Calls) made a handful too, but I was never ever able to get my hands on one of his. Wonder where Ole Brent's been hiding?

There were a couple of newer call makers that played around with the ELK Howler as a mouth piece too.

This call is not a Higgins or Saxton. ;)

E.L.K. Inc. (check their website) made the mouthpiece at least, I have one of their power howlers and it is very versatile. I use it mostly as a locater and sometimes I get lucky and a

ctually get answers! :giggle: There is an extra mouthpiece band under the cover.
 
Very nice. I have a cow horn howler that was made with the ELK mouthpiece by Jon Ryan - Lights Out Predator Calls.

That Higgins version with the coyote howling silhouette is really nice, parting with that must be hard to swallow. Looks like it may have been on buffalo horn?
 
Never heard of Jon Ryan that I recall. Yes, parting with the Higgins was tough for a handful of reason's, but probably the biggest was because it came from Richard Grantham. I think Rich's son even fooled around with making a few E.L.K. custom howlers too.

These howlers have a learning curve and can tickle the crap out out of your lip, but they are one of the most realistic sounding howlers out there. I have only had one open read howler that came close.
 
I think Jon went by the screen name of Ultramag on here and was from New York I believe.

Those latex bands do buzz the lip pretty good, and yes they do make a very realistic sound.
