gun bipods

I need a good bipod something that I could use on more than one gun and switch out. I made a set of varmit al's shooting sticks and they work great but won't fit in backpack, so it is just something else to carry. They don't have to fasten to gun as long as they are short enough to fit in pack.

I use Stoney Point polecat shooting sticks.. They are great to shoot with and they fold up (like tent poles) to about 12" to carry...

I have a Harris and a Rock mount bipod. IMO the harris is a little lighter but $25 more expensive. The rock point also telescopes easier and smoother. Save the dough and get the rock point.

I can't agree with that. I tore up a Rock Mount Chinkwanese built bipod while shooting woodchucks....It pretty much fell apart and I'd not reccomend it.....especially over a Harris..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I was browsing online and saw some sticks that where actually carbon arrows fastend together and had the flat rubber field tips for rabbits to set on the ground. They where selling the rubber tips for something like 10 dollars (2.50 at your local wal-mart) and arrows for a good bit more another cheap wal-mart puchase and you'd have yourself some slim light packable sticks! you could even pack a set made from bolts for prone shooting and still have saved money and weight!

I Just picked up a telescopic Stoney point Polecat Monopod.. It slides together making it small enough to tote in my Backpack, Still getting used to shooting off of one stick though..

Well as with anything else I could have possibly gotten a bad Harris for one reason or another. But I have had the rock mount and beat it up pretty good and it is still going strong. But the Harris is not nearly as smooth going in or out in the telescoping process. Or you could have gotten a bad deal on the Rock Mount. But my experience with the 2 is quite different than yours it sounds. I am not an expert on either that is just my experience.

I'm new to all of this but I really like my Harris bipod, it is light and seems very stout.

I have 4 Harris bipods in various lengths and have never had problem with any of them. Im sure sold on them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Don't know firsthand, but have heard Harris is another company that really stands by their product. I'd hate to have to try and send a Chinkwanese bipod in for service/repair.

I've had 3 Harris' so far.......

It's entirely possible that I got a bad one.....That was my one and only experience with them. I had originally went to the store with intentions of just buying another Harris but all they had in stock was the Rock Mount. Being the patient guy that I am, I just bought it.

When using a bipod I tend to load it pretty heavily with forward pressure on the rifle, I snapped the legs right off that Rock Mount. My oldest Harris is probably 10-12 years old and I had never treated it any different, it just keeps on ticking. I just tossed it and have never really given any thought to buying another.

I actually just last week purchased another Harris. I looked at a BUNCH of different bipods, but the choice was still easy in the end.

+17 for Harris...
Side by side, you CAN tell the difference, especially in the swivel models.
As far as portable stick type bipods, I shot off some Predator Sniper Stix last weekend and they were real convenient & light for carrying...great for hunting predators.

Funny thing is that was my exact experience. Got my new Dtech went to sportsmans they were out of hte Harris bipods. So impatient me though well the rock mount is cheaper I will give it a whirl and have had great luck with it. I have gotten some good use out of my Harris don't get me wrong but the rock mount has also been very very good.

It all comes down to a persons experience and we all know that those are not always going to be the same.
